1 August - Someone pokes fun at the birthers
2 August - Over at Dr. Orly's blog (malware warnings still in effect), Dr. Orly posts her latest, a "Motion for rogatory discovery to authenticate Kenyan Birth Certificate of Barack Hussein Obama" Complete with a colour photo of the supposed certificate.
"The undersigned counsel for Plaintiffs has acquired possession of a color copy of one certain document (attached as Exhibit A to this motion), regarding which there are no ready means of authentication except by recovery of the original document. As should be apparent from the nature and content of the document, if authenticated, and shown to be genuine, the contents of this document will significantly narrow and shorten the discovery and pre-trial litigation period necessary in this case, and might lead to an early resolution by settlement or transfer of these proceedings to the United States House of Representatives and Senate according the procedures outlined in the Constitution."

A couple things come to mind about said document though.
1) The registrar's name is "EF Lavender". Which is the name of a laundry detergent.
2) The country name on the document is "Republic of Kenya". Kenya declared independence on 12 December 1963. It was known as the "Dominion of Kenya" until 12 December 1964, when the Republic of Kenya was proclaimed. The document Dr. Orly submitted to the courts was dated 17 February 1964, almost 10 full months BEFORE the Republic of Keyna was proclaimed. A bare two months after independence, one would expect colonial forms with maybe an added "Dominion of Kenya" line.
3) The certificate number is "47O44". Obama is 47 years old, and the 44th President.
4) The document also says "4th August 1961 at Coast General Hospital, Mombasa". Ignoring the fact that Mombasa was on the other side of the country from where Barack Obama Sr.'s family lived, it was also part of Zanzibar until 12 December 1943 when it was ceeded into Kenya.
To say it doesn't pass the sniff test is saying something. And the fact she submitted this to the court should prove to be.....interesting.
2 August - Dr. Orly is looking for help in the UK (malware warning)

2 August - Even "Polarik" (possibly aka Dr. Ron Pollard) doesn't buy into the "Kenyan" BC.
"Sorry I have not responded sooner, but in addition to working on my updated report, I've been involved in a really huge mailing list of people following who have been researching a number of leads.
However, the bottom line is that it's another BOGUS BIRTH DOCUMENT. It's not a birth certificate at all."
He then sites what people at PolitiJab and other birther-debunking sites ALREADY FIGURED OUT, and ends with:
"An intelligence contact with Israeli connections says this: “We checked all the hospitals in Kenya, starting in early 2008. There is no such birth certificate. This is another fake. It is also a very bad fake, by the way, very amateurish, as anyone who has seen the real items would immediately discern.”
I also found a number of anomalies that shout, "Forgery." It's a government document saying the birth happened and that a birth certificate exists -- or pretty much like Obama's bogus Hawaiian COLB.

There's a good argument to be made, one I'm normally sympathetic to, that people like Taitz shouldn't be getting airtime, same as anyone else advocating a completely debunked but disturbingly popular conspiracy theory. (When's the last time you heard someone on MSNBC saying we didn't land on the moon?)
But in this case, I think this interview actually served a purpose, as Taitz did a fair amount of damage to her cause all by herself. Anyone who was on the fence and watched the interview could not possibly come away from it thinking she's credible."
4 August - Australian press covers the poor guy who's Australian BC got used to fake up the "Kenyan" one.

4 August - The Washington Post's Eugene Robinson writes about the Birthers.
"If there's been a more clinically insane political phenomenon in my lifetime than the "birthers," I've missed it. Is this what our national discourse has come to? Sheer paranoid fantasy?
I'm talking about the people who have convinced themselves that Barack Obama was not really born in the United States, and thus is ineligible to be president. Even some commentators who usually are among Obama's most rabid critics have acknowledged that this idea is simply nuts. Yet it persists, out there on the farthest fringes of the right-wing blogosphere. Oh, and also on CNN, which is usually a little closer to reality.
