In today's dispatches, we have some snark about Joseph Farah. Who doesn't seem to be reading his own website. Colin Powell suggests that his fellow Americans "get rid of the birther thing". The Pest and eFail continues to make stuff up, from Obama's church-going habits, to state fiscal habits, not to mention some candidate wingbattery, lack of knowledge about the US Constitution, and general racism. Dr. Orly sadly loses a supporter and shows a normal disconnect with reality or class. The birtherstani are upset that even their media heroes won't go full metal birther on them. And the Onion comes up with a parody that's only slightly less believable than what the birthers claim.
Also, a court case that shows just how the United States handles loss of citizenship by minors.
17 September - Over at Science Blog, Ed Brayton throws in his three cents about Joseph Farah.
"Of course, this is a man who already declares that the world is only 6000 years old and that humans were riding dinosaurs around the garden of Eden before the flood, so his declarations are often amusing. Tomorrow, no doubt, he'll be declaring the president to be an illegal alien -- half Kenyan, half Indonesian and half Martian.
And it's made all the more amusing by the very first sentence of his screed:
For more than two years now, I have given Barack Obama the benefit of the doubt.
Ah, yes. By "benefit of the doubt," of course, he means "browbeating the president about this bogus birth certificate issue relentlessly, crawling into bed with lunatics like Orly Taitz and falling for every hoax imaginable" for more than two years now. He's just so cute when he balls his fists up and bellows out in impotent rage -- especially when he simultaneously claims not to be doing so."
And look who shows up in comments!
"Please go to my site OrlyTaitzESQ.com to read the truth about Obama's illegitimacy to U.S. presidency. Simple fact, Obama is using today SS number 042-68-4425, issued to another individual in CT. (you can easily check, that 042 is assigned to SS applications coming from CT.) This number was issued when Obama resided in HI.Selective service confirms that Obama used this number since 1981. Not only he does not have a valid BC, he does not have a valid SS number of his own. The only thing that is more bogus, than Obama's presence in the WH, is Ed Brayton. His connection to science is as genuine, as connection of an alchemist to chemistry or connection of an astrologist to astronomy. He is an uneducated, rude Obama lackey. Please, read the truth on my site OrlyTaitzESQ.com
Posted by: orly taitz | September 17, 2010 2:07 PM"
I suspect Ed Brayton has a better connection to science than Dr. Orly has to the law - or reality.
"Rude? Orly, do you actually have the chutzpah to level that charge against anyone? After your conduct in several of the land's highest courts?
Pardon me for not asking your pardon. If I am rude it is only because I can be. And it's somehow very satisfying.
Posted by: Crudely Wrott | September 17, 2010 9:26 PM"
Yes, she's got the chutzpah. Or I should say the complete disconnect between her actions and reality.
19 September - Colin Powell comments on Newt Gingrich and birthers in general.
"I would just tell my fellow Americans: think carefully about what was just said, think carefully about some of the stuff that is coming across the blogs and the airwaves. Let's make a couple points: One, the president was born in the United States of America. Let's get rid of that one, let's get rid of the birther thing. Let's attack him on policy and not nonsense. Next, he is a Christian. He is not a Muslim. Twenty percent of the people see he is a Muslim, 80 percent apparently do not believe he is a Muslim."
At this point, moderator David Gregory interrupted to note that even more Republicans (30 percent, roughly) bought the Obama-is-a-Muslim myth.
"Well surprise, surprise. But I bet you a dollar if the unemployment rate was not 9.5 percent but it was down to four percent then you would find only five percent think he is a Muslim. So they are attacking the president on this line. But he is not a Muslim. He is a Christian, and I think we have to be careful when we take things like Dinesh D'souza's book, which is the source for all this, and suggest that somehow the president of the United States is channeling his dead father through some Kenyan spirits. This doesn't make any sense. Mr. Gingrich does these things from time to time, with a big bold statement. He did it with [Sonia] Sotomayor, she's a reverse racist; he did it with Elena Kagan, she ought to be taken off the nomination for Supreme Court justice; and he does it occasionally to make news and also to stir up dust."
But will anyone listen??
"Powell, it should be noted, has made appeals to sober-minded Republicanism before, also on "Meet the Press." And his pleas were met with calls from some of the GOP's more senior members to, essentially, leave the party. So while his rebuke of Gingrich may be newsworthy, the reaction to it could produce some telling remarks as well."
More than likely not I suspect.....
20 September - Here's a gem from the Pest and eFail
"Yesterday, on Sunday, September 19, 2010, the Obama family attended church for only the third time in a year. They went on foot to the St. John’s Episcopal Church situated across the Lafayette Park."
Funny, I don't recall Reagan going to church all that often while he was in office.
"But what is widely not reported by the White House and the MSM is that on that particular Sunday in that particular church, Dr. Ziad Asali, M.D., a Muslim, founder and president of the American Task Force on Palestine, was the guest speaker."
*Faceplant* They really are this petty and stupid. Particularly since, as it turns out, Obama wasn't there to hear the speaker. Ironically enough, Glenn Beck's website proved this out.
"What is “widely not reported” in this post is that that the central charge is false. The article says the Obama went to church to hear this Muslim speaker. It is true that Ziad Asali did speak at St. John’s this past Sunday. But Asali was part of a 10am “Forum” class. Obama attended a 9am worship service. The St. John’s rector spoke at the service Obama attended.
Well maybe Obama decided to hang around for the 10am class? No. Here is the pool report:
“The first family left the church by the side door at 10.03am and walked slowly through the park back to the White House.”
Which doesn't stop Sharon Rondeau from attempting to spin their lying.
"Mrs. Rondeau replies: The Post & Email’s article of September 20, 2010 was written by a private citizen as an editorial. Since publication, The Post & Email has stated that it appears that the Muslim speaker delivered his address after the service which Obama attended. However, the fact that the mainstream media did not mention that this very pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel speaker would be delivering an address at the church directly afterward is an omission. If Glenn Beck is mentioning it now, it is only because a citizen brought up the matter first yesterday. Beck mentioned nothing about it on his show yesterday.
Could Obama have attended that particular church service to make sure that there would be a “packed house” for Dr. Asali’s address?"
20 September - Here's an interesting quip from JB Williams, over at The Pest and eFail.
"There are only 22 right to work states left in America. They are the most fiscally sound and individually prosperous states in our union. The 28 forced unionization states are the most bankrupt states in our nation."
The "Right To Work" states are Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wyoming. So let's look at each state, according to the June 2010 report (PDF) filed by NASBO, the National Association of State Budget Officers.
Alabama is looking at a zero increase or decrease
Arizona is looking at a $935 million increase.
Arkansas is looking at a zero increase or decrease
Florida is looking at a $99 million shortfall.
Georgia is looking at a $226 million increase
Idaho is looking at a zero increase or decrease
Iowa is looking a a $34 million increase
Kansas is looking a $420 million increase
Louisiana is looking at a zero increase or decrease
Mississippi is looking at a $4.1 million increase
Nebraska is looking at a zero increase or decrease
Nevada is looking at a zero increase or decrease
North Carolina is looking at a $15.8 million shortfall
North Dakota is looking at a $63.8 million shortfall
Oklahoma is looking at a zero increase or decrease
South Carolina is looking at a zero increase or decrease
South Dakota is looking at a zero increase or decrease
Tennessee is looking at a $71.7 million increase
Texas is looking at a zero increase or decrease
Utah is looking at a zero increase or decrease
Virginia is looking at a $10 million increase
Wyoming is looking at a zero increase or decrease
So where does it leave those nasty "forced unionization" states??
California is obviously the worst, with a $976 million shortfall. Ohio is looking at a $420 million shortfall. However, of the remaining states, Illinois is looking at a $220 million increase in revenue. Michigan is looking at a $692.8 million increase. New York at a $1.5 BILLION increase. Washington State is almost as good at Arizona, at a $933.6 million increase.
If you look at those states' Fiscal 2009 General Fund? you notice that Alabama had a $764 million shortfall. Arizona had a $481 million shortfall. Texas had a $75 million shortfall.
The estimates Fiscal 2010 State General Fund shows a projected $248 million shortfall in Louisiana, and a $342 million shortffall in Mississippi. Iowa has a $514 million shortfall, Texas a $118 million shortfall, with Oklahoma showing a $709 million shortfall.
Seriously, it doesn't seem like those states are as "fiscally sound and individually prosperous" as JB Williams seems to think. Nor are the so-called "forced unionization" states as bad off either.
"But 80% of the nation loves free will and opposes labor unions and public sector job creation."
According to the 12 August 2010 Gallup Poll, support for labor unions in the United States is at a near low of 52%
What a surprise, they make stuff up again.
21 September - Over at the Pest and eFail, it looks like Gino DiSimone is off his meds again.
"I am running for Governor of Nevada, Independent Non-Partisan, Constitutional Conservative Patriot. I serve We The People and the Constitution, and nothing more."
Funny that it seems you have very little knowledge of the Constitution then.
"On the topic of illegal aliens and Obama ineligibility, my data shows America does not really care that much."
Translation: "Wahh, we cant get most people to BELIEVE our lies, wahhh!"
"Let me tell you once again where I stand and if you really care, prove it and drop $25 in my donation bucket "
Ka-CHING!!
"Note: Article 5 allows the States to convene and change, kill, add, alter all general government rules/acts/laws, including all agencies of the President, all Supreme Court Justices, the Congress and can indeed terminate the President without any other process aside from the collective States brief statement of termination. Make no mistake, the States are Sovereign."
Let's see what Article Five of the United States Constitution says, shall we??
"The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate."
This article has to do with Amendments to the Constitution. There's absolutely nothing here that says "the Congress and can indeed terminate the President without any other process aside from the collective States brief statement of termination". Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada. What the states have the power to do is, if 2/3rds of them agree, to require Congress to call a Constitutional Convention. The states also have the power to veto prospective reduction of representation.
Gino is outright lying in his claim.
"Yes, I will deport them, and within 6months over 80% of illegals in Nevada will be deported. Within 9months there will be less than a residual of illegal aliens in Nevada."
Followed by the Casino and Resort industries calling for your immediate recall.
"Further, on a separate note, in accordance with the Supreme Court definition of “natural born citizen,” I will require constitutional eligibility from Mr. Obama, which he cannot provide and marks him guilty of Treason."
Funny, all the Supreme Court decisions regarding citizenship have pretty much confirmed, over and over again, that if one is born in the United States, one is a natural born US citizen.
Amazingly enough, some of the wingnut brigade actually react badly to this post.
"David B says:

Personally, I resent the implication that, unless I donate to your campaign, I am not a patriot American and that I don’t care about the illegal immigration issue!!
All I read was a pompous, self-serving sales pitch. How dare you, without having so much as a hint as to what some of us, myself included, are doing to stem the flow of illegals on our southern border!
There are far more patriotic Americans doing far more to defend our border than you, in your cozy office up there in Nevada, than you could possibly imagine. What, exactly, have YOU done other than use this forum to insult people??
Your statement about the eligibility issue shows just how far out of touch with the American people you are. Obviously, you don’t have a clue! I could write paragraphs on that subject, but I’ll suffice to say that the average reader of the Post & Email is far more educated on this subject than you’ll ever be.
You, sir, should hang your head in shame over what you’ve written here. You’re nothing more than your typical politician. You think We The People are stupid and that we’ll go for your five cent psychology. I feel insulted in more ways than one. I’d be downright angry if you weren’t so transparent and laughable.
Send you $25.00?? After you’ve insulted both my intelligence and my patriotism?? Yeah sure buddy, hold your breath… the check’s in the mail."
"David F LaRocque says:
Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 2:32 PM
Mr DiSimone – I respectfully suggest that you do not understand the eligibility issue."
Neither does most birthers.
"It does not matter what the polls say. This is a fundamental issue of the rule of law which goes to the very heart of the Constitution. Your position cannot be reconciled with the courageous and patriotic actions of Lt Colonel Terry Lakin, nor with the eloquent statement of LCDR Fitzpatrick, found nearby on this site."
Well, in that all three are 1) wrong, 2) ignorant, and 3) batshit insane.......
"To quote LCDR Fitzpatrick -"
Wow, a birther actually getting Fitzpatrick's former rank right!
“Your statement that America “does not really care that much” about Obama’s eligibility is no different than Judge Carter saying, in his decision on Obama’s motion to dismiss in the Barnett case, that the law does not have authority to enforce the requirements of the Constitution because “69 million people voted for Obama”.
That wasn't the reason Carter gave for dismissing the case. But hey, it's not like "truth" or "reality" matter to the readers of the Pest and eFail.
21 September - More Pest and eFail nonsense.
"Onyango reportedly “moved from Kenya to the United States” in 2000. She “fell ill,” reportedly lived in a homeless shelter for two years, and later began receiving disability income, despite the fact that she was ineligible. Her nephew, Barack Obama, is believed by many to be ineligible to have collected millions of dollars in campaign contributions and to serve as President of the United States because he does not meet the definition of “natural born Citizen.”
By "many" she means "a fringe of conspiracy nutcases who are willing to believe anything that feeds their hatred of Obama"
"Perhaps Obama favors illegal immigration because he is an illegal immigrant himself."
You can't be an illegal immigrant in your own country
"Is there any proof that he is even a U.S. citizen?"
There is more credible evidence to support the claim that Obama is a natural-born US citizen, then to support even the least of the birther's claims.

And here I sit, a bonafied “natural born citizen”, a Vietnam Veteran, having worked and had income and social security taxes automatically taken out of my pay for 50 years, looking at my Medicare Card which indicates I have Medicare “HOSPITAL” coverage and close to $2,000 in recent hospital and doctor bills that Medicare declined to pay because I wasn’t actually admitted to the hospital per se but, rather, only in the hospital’s ER for a couple hours.
Can anyone else say “What’s wrong with this picture?”
How much did you scream against health care reform last summer, "RacerJim"?? Did you vote against your best interests again??
21 September - World Nut Daily has their first national convention. And, as Media Matters reports, Joseph Farah doesn't seem to read his own website....
"With the guest lineup of World Net Daily's Taking America Back 2010 national conference, it was no surprise that birtherism and bigotry were prevalent throughout the convention. After all, WND's Joseph Farah and Jerome Corsi are perhaps most (in)famous for their repeated birther attacks against President Obama.
Displaying shocking ignorance of his own publication, Farah kicked off WND's first national convention by asking if "anyone at WorldNetDaily ever asserted" that President Obama "is foreign-born." We can. It turns out that one of WND's commentators, Craige McMillan, has referred to President Obama as an "illegal alien" in at least three separate posts on WorldNetDaily's website. Despite Farah's suggestion that WorldNetDaily held itself above the tired questions about President Obama's citizenship, Jerome Corsi was quick to jump on the case.
Questioning the president's citizenship, and thus his eligibility as president, was not the only way speakers at WND's convention attacked Obama. Speaker after speaker attacked Obama's faith as a Christian. Jerome Corsi alternatively claimed that Obama "doesn't believe in God" and that he's a Muslim, Floyd Brown claimed that Obama "hates Christianity" and "is a Muslim," while Aaron Klein said that the president "has a certain affinity toward Islam."
Bigoted, racist, and lying. Yep, sounds like World Nut Daily to me.
21 September - Dr. Orly has an interesting take on reality. (malware and redirect warning)
"ATTACKS BY BARBARA BOXER ON CARLY FIORINA

Boxer engaged on attacks on Fiorina, citing the fact that under her watch HP moved some jobs abroad."
Well, moving US jobs out of the country and laying off US workers as a result was bad enough. But offshoring wasn't the only thing Fiorina did to HP. In fact, she almost ruined HP, and was considered to be one of the worst CEO's ever.
21 September - The birtherstani get rather annoyed that their media heroes (Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter), won't drink the birther flavour-aid.
"Open Letter to Rush Limbaugh/ Obama's Questionable Natural Born Citizenship

Mr. Limbaugh,
You have FAILED to defend the Constitution in the important matter of Obama's very questionable natural born status! On those rare occasions that you have mentioned the topic ( less than 5 total minutes) you have treated it like a joke. I am mystified that you have done this."
Maybe because it's a joke??
"The only consequence, Mr. Limbaugh, for directing attention to Obama's eligibility as a natural born citizen would have been a little ridicule from the mainstream Marxist media."
Well, it's not like Limbaugh hasn't been ridiculed by the mainstream press before. Which might say something then birtherism isn't a level even he's willing to go to.
"If you fail to defend the Constitution in time of relative peace and security, only a FOOL would expect you to defend the Constitution in the face of real tyranny, tanks in the streets, and cattle cars filled to the brim?"
Paranoid much?
"Only a fool would expect you to do what is right and brave."
Limbaugh got a medical disqualification for the Vietnam draft due to anal cysts. I think it's been obvious for a while he never has had any reason to do what's right or brave.
"Personally, I will never fully trust you and your opinions again."
Why on earth would one do it in the first place??
"Some things are deal breakers. That you have failed to cover the important question of having a constitutionally eligible president is a deal breaker for me."
"Wahh! You haven't drank the flavour-aid, wahhh!!"
"By the way, LTC Lakin is facing court martial for having dared Obama to prove his natural born citizenship. "
No, he's facing court-martial for publically disobeying an order in his direct chain of command.
"LTC Lakin is brave and honorable man. "
No, he's a wingnut who has thrown his career away.
"Mr. Limbaugh, that little itty bitty phrase in the Constitution about having a natural born citizen for a president is **not** a JOKE!"
No, it's not. However, your de Vattelist belief that the Constitution kowtows to "The Law of Nations" isn't even supported by the rest of the Constitution, never mind US law or US case histories.
Some of the freepers aren't impressed.
"If you were in grade school, you would be a key candidate for the swirly club.
I do not believe Mr. Limbaugh is in anyway threatened by a self-important opinion such as expressed here.

The fact that no star “quarterback” is willing to attempt to complete this particular “pass” should say more about the feasibility of the “play” than the “cowardly” nature of the quarterbacks.
I think when and if this matter is determined definitively it will be found that there are two types of U.S. citizenship to go with the two ways of becoming a U.S. citizen. If you are a citizen via the natural act of being born, you are a natural born citizen. A natural born citizen would be defined as one who was born a citizen. If you are a citizen via naturalization, you are a naturalized citizen. That was my opinion of the law long before 0bambam made the scene, and I have seen no reason to change it due to the temper of the times or any legal reasoning put forward.

22 September - And over at The Onion......
"According to a poll released Tuesday, nearly 20 percent of U.S. citizens now believe Barack Obama is a cactus, the most Americans to identify the president as a water- retaining desert plant since he took office.
The poll, conducted by the Pew Research Center, found a sharp rise in the number of Americans who say they firmly believe Obama was either born a cactus, became a cactus during his youth, or has questionable links to the Cactaceae family.
"We asked people of varying races, ages, and backgrounds the same question: 'What is President Barack Obama?'" Pew spokeswoman Jodi Miller told reporters. "And a fifth of them responded, 'A cactus.'"
According to the poll, Obama has lost favor among many voters who supported his candidacy in 2008 but have since come to doubt he is a mammal. While these Americans concede Obama may not specifically be a cactus, most believe he is a plant of some kind, with 18 percent saying the president is a ficus, 37 percent believing him to be a grain such as wheat or millet, and 12 percent convinced he is an old-growth forest in Northern California.
When asked why they agreed with the statement "President Obama is a large succulent plant composed of specialized cells designed for water retention in arid climates," many responded that they "just know," claiming the president only acts like a human being for political purposes and is truly a cactus at heart."
22 September - Here's an interesting find.
Those who buy into the Indonesian Citizenship claim believe that Obama renounced or otherwise lost his US citizenship upon his mother's marriage to Lolo Soetoro. As I've pointed out before, this is a theory that is not supported by either US or Indonesian law.
And now here's a bit of additional proof. The case is Inouye v Clark, District Court, S. D. California, Central Division, No. 5945-W, 5 September 1947.
"The plaintiff, Albert Yuichi Inouye, was a young boy of the age of seventeen years at the time he signed his application for renunciation and born in the United States. His parents were of Japanese ancestry and subject to being deported. He was the only son and had never been in Japan or had any feeling of loyalty to that country. He was with his family when they were evacuated from Los Angeles to the Manzanar Relocation Center in California and thereafter transferred to Santa Fe Detention Center, New Mexico, where he remained until his release. He was not disloyal to the United States or violated any law or performed any act or conduct that could be considered espionage and sabotage. Prior to his evacuation he attended the public schools and was active in the Christian Church, Y.M. C.A. athletics, participated in the contribution to the drives for infantile paralysis, tuberculosis, waste paper and purchased war savings stamps. While at the Relocation Center he was active in the American Red Cross project and went to school there. While seventeen years of age in March, 1945, he applied for renunciation and signed the application form furnished by the Department of Justice on July 9, 1945, and withdrew his renunciation on August 23, 1945, which was of no avail. While at the Relocation Center he was accorded another hearing and after proof of his loyalty to the United States had been evident was released in April, 1946. Soon after his release from the Center he volunteered for the United States Army, was ordered to report for overseas duty on November 2, 1946, and on November 16, 1946 for Military Intelligence school where he is presently stationed. At the hearing before the government agent and what had occurred before, it appears clear that the youth yielded to parental compulsion and a clear case of "parental influence" in order to hold the family intact. In his application to withdraw his renunciation, he states that his renunciation was done under mistake and influence, not his free will and that he was a minor."
And how did the court rule?? (Bold face mine)
"For the reasons thus stated, the results of the plaintiffs' renunciations having been made under undue influence, duress and coercion and not of their free will and act, and the further thought as to the plaintiff, Albert Yuichi Inouye, not being competent of legal age at the time he made his application for renunciation, who also acted under undue influence, duress and coercion, their renunciations are declared to be null and void and cancelled and they are restored to their rights of citizenship."
Just more proof that there's no legal way Obama could have renounced his US citizenship as a minor.
22 September - Dr. Orly loses a supporter and volunteer, namely Evelyn Bradley. (malware and redirect warning)
"Mrs. Evelyn Bradley passed away yesterday at 10:45 PM. Unfortunately cancer spread all over her body and she could not fight it. She was surrounded by her loving family- her three children; Douglas, Victoria and George, eight grandchildren and one great grand child, as well as many friends.
Mrs. Bradley was a very special friend and she left a void in hearts of many of her friends and relatives. She was a person of unbelievable strength and faith and energy. Evelyn was one of the citizens, who stood up to Obama fraud and helped me in a number of legal actions."
It's a shame when one's life ends while they're consumed by hatred and lies. However, my sympathies go out to her family for their loss.
"Her devotion to my work and my cases and my campaign stemed from her devotion to this country, her outrage about massive fraud and treason, committed by Obama and his cronies. I really hoped that Evelyn will be there, in the courtroom, when the discovery is granted, when we win the case against Barack Obama-fraud, against Damon Dunn-fraud. Unfortunately she did not live to see this happen, but she is with us in spirit and I am sure she is watching over us from heaven. I hope we will win soon in memory of Evelyn and many others who died for this country and for the Constitution of this country, for the ones who fought for justice. Let’s hope that these people did not die in vain, that a bunch of criminals in Federal government and media did not take over the Nation permanently."
On the other hand, I have no regard or sympathy for those who would milk the death of a "friend" for political or propaganda gain. But then again we all know there's no level that Dr. Orly won't stoop down to.
"P. Barnett
September 22nd, 2010 @ 8:35 am
I will miss Evelyn greatly. I cannot believe that she is gone so quickly.. One day a hurt knee and a couple weeks later gone..
She was a wonderful person… She was a very determined person.. a true patriot, wonderful mother and grandmother and and a true Christian woman. I pray that she will be here looking after us in our fight for justice for our country. She is probably already whispering in God’s ear.
I love Evelyn.. God bless her wonderful family."
And I see Pam Barnett is willing to go just as low as Dr. Orly. Not surprising.
