19 October - Republican News Watch" comments on the Sharon Meroni / Illinois GOP tie.

Meroni (who blogs under the name “Chalice Jackson”) went into a McHenry County court in late 2009 seeking to challenge the citizenship of Barack Obama. Her website has some similar themes.
However I had never heard of her until this summer when she filed 31 frivolous objections against the petitions of independent and new party candidates. Meroni challenged the petitions of every single candidate – with the exception of Randy Stufflebeam who she apparently overlooked. Meroni didn’t care about the number of petition signatures or any of the other claims made in the typical petition challenge. Meroni instead wanted every candidate to produce a birth certificate."
20 October - So it looks like the tactic for Lakin's new lawyers is to dump the birtherstani stuff completely. This according to the National Institute of Military Justice's blog.
Of course, those who know LTC Lakin's new civilian counsel immediately suspected the former--that the investigating officer's and military judge's rulings against Lakin had finally sunk in, and Puckett was brought in to attempt to salvage any hope of mercy being meted out to Lakin. A recent post seems to confirm the belief that the trial spectacle previously promised will fizzle into a guilty plea. It remains to be seen whether the government has any incentive to offer or accept a pretrial agreement in this case.

"Puckett confirmed that the judge in the case, Denise Lind, "rendered the proper legal ruling" regarding access to Obama's birth and eligibility evidence.

So basically the defense is going to drop the birtherstani stuff as irrelevant to the case. And since Lakin is on record and video as having disobeyed orders due to those now-irrelevant reasons, I suspect the focus now is on trying to salvage as much of Lakin's career and pension as possible. It's possible they might accept a plea bargain down to NJP and a letter of reprimand, that would allow Lakin to complete his final two years and retire as an Lt. Col.
Vallely's group though are still trying to horn in with their de Vattelist mantra.
"Officials with the United States Patriots Union earlier told WND the officer's arguments needed to go beyond the quest for the president's original birth certificate because that would reveal only some of the evidence needed.
The group, which says it linked Lakin up with Puckett, contends the unveiling of the president's birth certificate would prove one of two things: he was a dual citizen or there has been "the greatest fraud ever perpetrated on the American people."
"A birth certificate would only prove one of two things – 1) Barack Hussein Obama (Sr) is his bloodline birth father and Barack Jr. was thereby a 'dual citizen' rather than natural born citizen at birth. Or, in the second case, "Barack Hussein Obama (Sr) is NOT his stated birth father on the birth records, in which case Obama has committed the greatest fraud ever perpetrated on the American people."
"A birth certificate cannot solve Barack Hussein Obama's problem, unless and until an unconstitutional precedent can be set in court that 'natural-born' – 'native-born' and 'naturalized' are all one in the same. We know that they are not the same things, and why the Founders limited eligibility for the office of president to only 'natural-born' citizens. 20 October - The military law blog CAAFlog also comments on the new strategy by Lakin's attorney.
"Neal Puckett, LTC Lakin’s new civilian defense counsel, has publicly renounced a birther defense for LTC Lakin. And, interestingly enough, he did so during an interview with the WorldNetDaily–birtherism’s official in-house electronic newsrag.
In an article dated 2204 last night, WND’s Bob Unruh quotes from an interview with Mr. Puckett. The article’s lead reports that LTC Lakin’s trial has been moved to 14 December. A few paragraphs down, Mr. Unruh drops a bombshell in uncharacteristically understated fashion: "

But its implications seem to have somehow escaped the WorldNetDaily, which generally deals with any perceived departure from birther orthodoxy with cries of “treason.” Does Mr. Unruh not understand Mr. Puckett was saying?

"A group trying to register voters in Houston received threats and emails containing racist slurs after being targeted by a local tea party group accusing it of "voter fraud."

21 October - Looks like Sharon Meroni's job was - wait for it - "recruitment coordinator" for the Illinois GOP's "poll watching" effort.
"Sharon Meroni, an Illinois resident who is a member of the so-called birther movement, is listed as "Recruitment Coordinator" in an e-mail obtained by TPMMuckraker.
Illinois is the location of an apparently significant anti-voter fraud effort focused on part of the states with high concentrations of minority voters, which came under scrutiny after GOP Senate candidate Mark Kirk said that he was deploying "voter integrity" squads to monitor the elections there.
"If you're unemployed right now, it's something to add to your resume. You are out there, making a difference. So, Republicans, come together -- we need judges," said Sharon Meroni in a phone message I heard when I called a phone number listed on the e-mail."
21 October - And it looks like the Illinois GOP is trying to get the smell of birther off their hands.
"Brady downplayed Meroni's role in the process, saying that she was never on the state GOP's pay role, and that many people have come forward this year offering to help recruit poll watchers. He said allegations of voter suppression attempts are completely untrue.
"We're not that sophisticated," Brady said. "We do this every [election]. . . make it easy for everybody to vote, hard for anybody to cheat."
But, as Talking Points Memo reports, the actual poll watchers might have their own agendas. There have already been reports of voter intimidation in Texas, where members of True the Vote, a Tea Party affiliated organization, were allegedly "hovering over" voters, "getting into election workers' faces" and blocking or disrupting lines of voters waiting to cast their ballots.
The organization issued a statement saying they could not be held responsible for the actions of individuals, who were properly trained."

Dr. James Cone is a Professor of Theology. Dr. Cornel West is a Professor of Philosophy.
Barack Obama's major in Columbia was political science with a specialty in international relations.
Manning seems to think that Obama would have taken classes from these professors, neither one of which taught the field that Obama was majoring in, simply because those professors were African-American. And the fact that Obama didn't mention taking classes taught by Dr. Cone or Dr. West is somehow "proof" to Manning that Obama didn't attend Columbia.

Jones: Well, yeah. If you’re part of this community, if you’re part of the intellectual life of this community, then yeah, it’s someplace that actually, it’s a historic site. And certainly, one would yeah. One would expect that one would have gone there, at least known about it, or acknowledge it in someplace. It was just that historic. Everybody went there."

Really, the truth of the matter is, there is nothing in the thousands or millions of words that Barack Obama has spoken since the time he declared for President, up until now, that he mentions any of the landmarks that one would expect somebody to have seen, if they were in this community, if they were right up the block at Columbia, not the Liberation Bookstore, not the mosque, not the place where Marcus Garvey was, not the Schoenberg library, which is world famous nothing. There’s no indication of anything, that there’s no footprints of his anywhere in this community. Except for Sylvia’s, where he came to eat once, I think."
So the fact that he didn't go to this Nation of Islam mosque, or this "black liberation" bookstore, is somehow proof that Obama wasn't at Columbia??
Manning has some blinders here. He assumes that all African-Americans act like the people in Harlem he knows do. Obama grew up in Hawaii, which is VERY multi-cultural. Plus, he went to Columbia to study, not to "reconnect with his blackness" or some such tripe. So it's not surprising he didn't go to either place, they had nothing to do with the field of knowledge he was majoring in!!

Does Manning seem to think Harlem is some African-American "Mecca" or something, and all African-Americans must visit Harlem at some point??

Obama's father came from Kenya, not Harlem. Why would he be looking for his "roots" in Harlem when his father had no connections there??
It's hard to figure out what's going on in his tic-tac sized brain, but Manning's complaint seems to boil down to Obama isn't the right "kind" of African-American, (according to James Manning that is.)
Oh yeah...I can't possibly have attended the University of Illinois because there's no record I ever took classes in their women's studies department. The fact that I was a business major is completely irrelevant.
Just when I think theses people can't get any more irrational, they raise the bar.

From the looks of the videos of Berg's birther rally, he had maybe 50 people , perhaps 100? ... They sure are gaining ground. I'm getting kind of worried.

According to one of the commenters at Dr. Kate's blog who attended the Berg rally, there were about 200 people there ... including at least one heckler, who informed the crowd that he had seen more people at his local supermarket. There's a photo of Dr. Kate's commenter at WND, holding up her sign and looking like she just sucked on a lemon.
I don't usually feel sorry for these people but this seemed kind of sad ... one woman at the rally had driven all the way from Texas to attend. Maybe it was worth it if she finally understands that Berg is playing her for a fool.
And this made me laugh. Berg was late to the rally and announced that it had been sabotaged. The train was supposed to arrive in DC at 9 AM but stopped on the tracks for 2 hours "for no apparent reason"!

Can't be more than 100 total. I get the sense that most of them were just people who happened to be around who stopped to look out of curiosity. I doubt if more than 30 actually attended on purpose

That video ... Berg's not exactly a spell-binding orator, is he? The guys struggling to hold up the flag and sign behind him were more interesting. I hope that poor guy in the hoodie didn't have to hold that flag all afternoon. His leg must have been black and blue at the end of the day.
Note the cut to the jet contrail in the sky and the YouTube commenter who brings up the chemtrail conspiracy.

Fitzpatrick is really about to go over the edge. He could well be the next crazy shooter out there, like that 88year old loser that shot the guards at the Holocaust Museum last year.
I hope someone reports this rant to the local authorities. I think it's high time the FBI stepped in an hog-tied this moron in a cell until his trial and likely incarceration. Innocent people are going to get hurt by this old fool.
