Dispatches from Birtherstan - 12-16 May 2012

In today's dispatches, birtherpoolza refunds. More commentary on Dr. Orly's KBOA-produced and voiced campaign video. Jack Cashill doubles down on the dumb. Darren Huff gains four years separated from his remote-controlled buddy.

Dr. Orly continues her Mississippi Birther Ballot Jihad by screaming over anything that even remotely goes against her wishes. A collection of seditious and racist comments from from Birther Report. A collection of just plain racist commentary from Lame Cherry. The Mississippi Secretary of State says why Dr. Orly's case belongs in Federal Court.

The judge in Van Irion's Arizona case removes the defunct NDP from the case. Dr. Orly throws a fit that World Nut Daily isn't giving her the birther bucks Corsi is collecting. And TPM Muckraker takes a few shots at the Corsi-pimped "Dreams From My Real Father" movie.

12 May - Dean Haskins offers refunds to those who had signed up for his late, unlamented birtherpoolza.

"However, knowing that the registration fees that were paid were not necessarily outright donations to our cause, and that we simply were not able to bring the event to fruition, we want to offer, for a limited time, the ability for those who paid a registration fee, who would like a refund of those fees, to receive one. Registration fee refunds will be available by request to those who send an email to (redacted) no later than June 11, 2012. That email must include the registrant's name and address, and the date the registration was purchased. After June 11, a refund will be mailed to anyone who provides this information.

Finally, we are offering these refunds, not because it is an easy thing for us to do (the refunds will have to be provided from our personal funds), but because we believe it is the right thing to do. We would also like to challenge anybody within our movement who has accepted payments from people as a means to accomplish some stated goal(s), to refund the money for any goal that was not achieved—whether or not it is believed that the lack of achievement was due to the incompetence of those receiving the funds. Refunds should especially be offered by anyone who has publicly criticized us for not offering them.

Just as it is the right thing for us to offer these refunds, so would it be the right thing for anyone else who has not been able to reach the goals for which money has been given, because we believe that integrity matters."

It would be nice to believe that Haskins was actually doing the right and proper thing here. If he is, then congratulations to him for doing the right thing.

13 May - The ever-wonderful "Crazy Internet People" comments on Dr. Orly's Tracey Fair-produced fan video.

"It begins with the usual “corruption” allegations narrated by the one and only “Kenyan Born Obama Acorn” (thank doG there’s only one of those!). In the original version KBOA computerized her voice during the narration, which gave it that really creepy feel, but since she has re-recorded it with her own true voice, which isn’t really much better. The video goes on to compare a photo of Diane Feinstein; arms extended exhibiting the peace sign with both hands with one of Richard Nixon doing the same. It then goes into Orly's big battle with the evil forces of Obama’s massive regime. Which in her grand delusion is trying to take over this country and lock everyone that is not part of the corruption in one of many of Obama’s secret FEMA Gulags to be either re-educated or gassed. It shows a very evil looking photo of the Obama setting fire to the United States Constitution.

It continues showing photos of Orly with people like Eric Canter and Michele Bachmann to demonstrate no doubt how popular she is with the RWNJ’s of the GOP, (all of which in truth run from her like the plague). And more photos of Orly during her many court crusades against “the evil one”. One can only wonder how many more people will be accused of treason, corruption and will then be sued by this fruitcake for some sort of malice in causing her to lose the election once she loses, which of course she will. Because you see if this entire government system of ours weren’t corrupt she would win the election hands down. She knows this as a matter of fact and has said so because she gets more Google hits that DiFi does. So there you have it!"

14 May - Not content to merely scrape the bottom of the barrel, World Nut Daily continues to strip mine under the barrel, with not just one article claiming that someone else wrote Obama's love letters, but a SECOND article linking to the first.

"What Hirsch refuses to question is whether that “unguarded early voice” is Obama’s own. On this question, Maraniss does nothing to enlighten him. As an Obama biographer – his book “Barack Obama: The Story” is due out next month – Maraniss obviously knows that controversy surrounds Obama’s writing skills.

Given that controversy, he owes his reader some proof of the letter’s legitimacy. He should tell us whether he saw a hard copy of the letter, whether it was typed or hand-written, and why it reads so much better than Obama’s published work of the same period. He does none of the above."

Except for the fact that the only "controversy" exists in the minds of those who simply can't handle the idea that President Obama may actually be intelligent and literate.

"And yet writing longhand, presumably from memory, Obama has the wherewithal to put an umlaut over the “u” in Münzer. In college, I was an Honors English student and a Classics minor, not a political science major like Obama. I had not even heard of Münzer before reading this letter.

That Obama could embark upon a sophisticated, spontaneous discussion of T.S. Eliot – he claimed not to have read “The Waste Land” for a year and never bothered “to check all the footnotes” – should have alerted Maraniss."

Well, it's hard to say if the Münzer in question is the classical scholar Friedrich Münzer or the theologian Thomas Münzer. But in either case, Cashill's argument seems to be "it's fake because he talks about someone I never heard of before, how DARE he?? "

And in the second article:

"Author and WND columnist Jack Cashill, whose works include “Deconstructing Obama: The Life, Loves and Letters of America’s First Postmodern President,” says revelations in Vanity Fair’s excerpts of a coming Obama biography simply raise more questions about just exactly who wrote what in Barack Obama’s history.

That’s because excerpts from Obama’s writings, love letters to a girlfriend, quoted by biographer David Maraniss in his coming book, “Barack Obama: The Story,” are smooth, erudite and grammatically fluent, as opposed to the “clunkers,” clichés and calamities from other documented examples of Obama’s writings."

By "raise more questions", they mean "shoots down Cashill's pet theory".

15 May - We find out how long Darren Huff is going to be separated from his pink plastic pal that's fun to be with.

"A former Georgia militia member was sentenced to four years in prison Tuesday, after being convicted of transporting firearms across state lines with the intent to cause a civil disorder.

He was convicted in October 2011, and sentenced Tuesday.

"This sentence will send a strong message to those who attempt to take the law into their own hands. Under our federal Constitution and statutes Mr. Huff and others like him can talk or write about their anti-government views. They cannot arm themselves and make threats to arrest public officials and take over government buildings. Oh, and Fitzpatrick gets a shout out too:

"Huff was part of a 'birther' movement that sought to indict President Barack Obama for failing to produce a birth certificate to verify his U.S. citizenship.

The two main characters in the legal fight that began in April 2010 are Huff and a Monroe County man named Walter Fitzpatrick III.

Fitzpatrick attempted to convince a Monroe County grand jury to indict Obama. When the courts refused, Fitzpatrick attempted a "citizens' arrest" of several members of local law enforcement and court employees. Fitzpatrick was arrested after attempting one of the arrests in a Monroe County courtroom. Huff was present during the attempted citizens' arrests.

Fitzpatrick was arrested for charges that included disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. A few weeks later, Huff again drove from Georgia to Madisonville in order to protest the charges against Fitzpatrick."

15 May - In Mississippi, the Secretary of State responds to Dr. Orly's demand to remand her birther ballot jihad case back to state court.

15 May - In Arizona, the judge in Van Irion's case dismisses as a defendant the "National Democratic Party of the USA" due to the fact that Van Irion failed to prove proper service as per the court's demand.

15 May - Seems to be the standard pattern. Candidate or politician plays flirty games with birthers. Media picks up on it. Candidate or politician tries to backpedal furiously.

16 May - Talking Points Memo Muckraker comments on the Corsi-pimped movie "Dreams From my Real Father" and the infighting in birtherstan over this movie.

"“Dreams From My Real Father,” a 97-minute film narrated by an Obama impersonator, weaves the narrative that Obama’s grandfather wasn’t a furniture salesman but an undercover CIA agent who convinced Barack Obama Sr. to marry his teenage daughter to hide the fact that she was impregnated by a 55-year-old communist named Frank Marshall Davis.

The fake Obama narrator sets up the tale as the “the story I would have told if I were being honest with you.” Built through archival black and white footage, the film’s disclaimer states that it includes “re-creations of probable events, using reasoned logic, speculation, and approximated conversations in an attempt to provide a cohesive understanding of Obama’s history.”

Using that disclaimer, the filmmakers assert that Obama had a nose job ahead of his 2004 run for Senate, that his mother posed for naked photos when she was five weeks pregnant with him and that Bill Ayers nurtured Obama’s career."

Needless to say, there's some flak.

"The film has been favorably reviewed by WND’s Jerome R. Corsi, who wrote an entire book arguing that Obama’s birth certificate is a fake and that he was really born in Kenya and ineligible to be president of the United States.

But the suggestion that Obama really was born in Hawaii and that his father was an American citizen has some conspiracy theorists upset. Birther queen Orly Taitz is troubled by the film because it undermines the theory that Obama’s father had to be a U.S. citizen for him to be a “natural born citizen” (a qualification which would have eliminated several other presidents). WND and Corsi, wrote Taitz, are “trying to kill the case by making up an American citizen father for Obama.”

“Who are they working for? What incentive did they get to do so? Please, tell Corsi and Farah to stop this. Enough and enough,” she wrote."

16 May - Operating under the sound legal theory of "wahh, they said something mean about me!". Dr. Orly asks the Mississippi court for sanctions against the Mississippi Democratic Party and attorneys Samuel Begley and Scott Tepper.

Remember how they submitted to the court all the past birther failures, including the attached copies of the Long Form Birth Certificate??

Seems Dr. Orly was annoyed by that.

"Judicial notice is appropriate pursuant to Fed. R. Evid. Rule 201. Under Fed. R.Evid. Rule 201(b), a Court may take judicial notice of any matter "not subject to reasonable dispute in that it is either (l) generally known within the territorial jurisdiction of the trial court or (2) capable of accurate and ready determination by resort to sources whose accuracy cannot reasonably be questioned."

Funny thing, but I would have thought that the State of Hawaii confirming a documents validity would have made it a source "whose accuracy cannot reasonably be questioned".

Ah, but then again I'm not a conspiracy addled nitrous huffing dingbat with rats gnawing on their brainstem.

"CIVIL ACTION NO. 3:12cv280-HTW-LRA which contained documents (motion for a judgment on the Pleadings and Exhibits), which represent forgeries (long Form Birth Certificate) (Exhibit 1). Begley and Tepper requested for such forgeries to be accepted by the court for a judicial notice and ruling on the pleadings. Begley and Tepper acted knowingly, with malice and with moral turpitude, with an intent to defraud the court and to defraud the public at large."

A couple problems here:

1) The documents were submitted as part of court records from previous cases.
2) The documents have never been proven by credible sources to be forgeries.
3) The State of Hawaii has (repeatedly) confirmed both the COLB and Long Forms as valid.

"When such documents were presented Begley and Tepper were in possession of testimony showing such documents to be forgeries."

So which trained and certified forensic experts is she citing for proof?

"1. Sworn testimony for a computer expert Felicito Papa, attesting that a document in question, an alleged copy of a long form birth certificate is a computer generated forgery (Exhibit 2, Affidavit of Felicito Papa first Amended Complaint)"

Ummmm…

"2. Transcript of the Public announcement and press conference by Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona and investigator Zullo, advising the public that the long form birth certificate in question is a forgery (Exhibit 3 First Amended Complaint, Transcript of Sheriff Joe Arpaio)"

"3. Sworn testimony by a senior deportation officer John Sampson, attesting to the fact that the document in question is a forgery (Exhibit 4) (First Amended Complaint, affidavit of senior Deportation officer john Sampson)"

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, she cited ITT grad Felicito Papa, John Sampson, and pyramid power writer and copier salesperson Douglas Vogt, the very same people who were dismissed as not credible in Georgia. And then, just for fun, the long-since debunked claims of disgruntled PUMA Mara Zebest.

At this point, I suspect all Begley and Tepper would have to do is submit the judge's ruling from Georgia as "evidence" to refute all this nonsense. At the very least, I suspect the court might take a dim view on Dr. Orly screaming "fraud" and "forgery" and citing evidence that a previous court already found her "evidence" to be a giant steaming pile of taitz.

"Begley and Tepper is attempting to use this honorable court and judges Wingate and Anderson to sanitize and legitimize a flagrant forgery with an ultimate goal of defrauding 311 million American citizens. Such behavior represents moral turpitude, ethical violation, sanctionable by this court."

And your using long-since debunked nonsense that other courts and state officials have determined to lack credibility is what exactly??

Well, obviously some birthers believe that there actually is a department (The National Counterfactual Records Dept.) somewhere that keeps records of such things, including a record of Obama that says "was never adopted", a record of Castro that says "never won the World Series" and a record of the moon that says "elephants have never been there".
So logically birthers demand to see the record that says "Obama never was adopted". ;)
