"Sheriff Joe Arpaio's volunteer investigation into documents pertaining to President Barack Obama's place of birth and citizenship now includes the services of a taxpayer-funded deputy, according to Arpaio.
The deputy joined Mike Zullo, a volunteer member of Arpaio's cold-case posse, in Hawaii this week in part due to "security issues," according to Arpaio, and because the investigation has progressed.
"It's one deputy, so what? We have security issues, too, that I can't get into," Arpaio said on Friday. "For six months, we were not spending any money. When you're doing investigations, sometimes things change, you put more resources into it."
But wait, Arpaio has insisted before that no taxpayer monies were being used for the Mariposa CCCP?
"Arpaio has in the past touted the investigation's total reliance on donated funds and volunteers, but he said the investigation now requires the use of a sworn deputy. Arpaio said the volunteer posse is in the midst of a criminal investigation but refused to discuss details of the probe or what drove the posse member and deputy to Hawaii."

"Two men who identified themselves as being from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office in Phoenix went to the Hawaii Department of Health Monday morning requesting verification of President Barack Obama's birth certificate, said a state spokeswoman.
A Hawaii deputy attorney general gave the men information concerning the legal requirements to obtain such a document; the requirements are posted on the Health Department's website. The two men then left the office, Health Department spokeswoman Janice Okubo said.
The two men showed Maricopa County Sheriff's Office badges and identified themselves as Michael Zullo and Brian Mackiewcz, Okubo said. They are "authorized by the Sheriff of Maricopa County, who is conducting an official investigation," a spokesman for the sheriff's office said in an email."
They do know they don't have any jurisdiction in the State of Hawaii, don't they??

21 May - TPM Muckraker reports on Arpaio sending Zullo and a deputy to Hawaii. And we find out more about the so-called "threats management unit".
"The Star-Advertiser reported that Zullo and Mackiewcz flashed badges on Monday when they showed up at the Hawaii Department of Health. Mackiewcz apparently also handed over a business card showing he is part of the Arizona sheriff’s “Threats Management Unit.”
Before now, the unit was perhaps best known for its role in a criminal investigation into Arpaio’s opponent during the 2004 Republican primary for sheriff. Arpaio’s investigators accused the challenger of sexually assaulting his adoptive mother 30 years earlier when he was in his mid-teens. (The challenger later said it was his mother who assaulted him and ended up suing Arpaio.) It’s unclear whether Mackiewcz was part of the unit at the time.
Arpaio declined to explain to the Arizona Republic why the threats unit was involved in the birth certificate investigation, instead making only a vague reference to “security issues…that I can’t got into.”
Why does this sound more like Arpaio's "praetorian guard" or personal bodyguards than anything else?
So let me get this straight. Arpaio sends Zullo, a "deputy" from his trusted "special" unit, and Jerome Corsi to the Department of Health for the State of Hawaii, to demand….what exactly?
It sounds like they tried to intimidate Hawaiian officials.

Talking Points Memo obtained emails yesterday detailing the occasionally testy exchanges between Bennett and Jill T. Nagamine, Hawaii’s Deputy Secretary of State. Surprising enough, Apraio seems to be, oh, I dunno, LYING about this.

"They met in a conference room with the deputy director of health and a deputy attorney general. … The registrar was not available at the time, so his supervisor, the deputy director, took the time to meet with the gentlemen. The statutory process was explained at the meeting, and all publicly available documentation was provided."
So Zullo and the "special threats deputy" (and I assume Jerome Corsi) were provided with the publicly available information from the State of Hawaii, along with the legal process needed to get official confirmation of this information.
Obviously, this won't come anywhere close to satisfying the birtherstani.
"Of course, Hawaii officials aren't going to just hand over the goods to America's self-styled toughest sheriff. Especially if they're in on the cover-up, as Arpaio clearly suspects.
"We feel that that document is a forgery," he said. "We're trying to figure out who did it. That's good police work."
So in other words, "Our mind is made up, don't confuse us with facts".

I don't imagine that it's an easy assignment. This is a complicated case that calls for sophisticated law-enforcement techniques, given those tricky Hawaiians with their website (hawaii.gov/health/vital-records/ obama.html) offering all publicly available documents.
"These include, among other things, press releases from both the past and present state directors of health verifying that they have personally seen and verified the president's birth records, as well as a link to the White House website where a copy of the certification of live birth is posted," Wisch wrote."

Lets be clear none of these Birther dullards have taken there "Birther Documents of facts, more like lies" and won a case in the “U.S. Courts”, maybe in their simple minds (if they have any) but not in our “U.S. Courts”, so unless Birthers/ teabaggers, whatever you want to be called, win a court case, we will continue to see as dullards, liars or racist or maybe all three. Deal with that baby!

I ascribe the recent mini flare-up of Birtherism to the Birthers realization that Romney is going to be the nominee and they can't bring themselves to support him. They hate everything about him.
Romney's grandparents left the US to escape anti-polygamy laws fergawdsakes. I can't imagine the vitriol they'd be spewing at him if he were a Democrat.

1)There is no doubt whatsoever that Lame Cherry is as crazy as a rat in a coffee can. 2)I'm thinking the Hawaii state officials, confronted with Arizona nitwits flashing Arizona badges and presenting weird business cards, had a difficult time keeping a straight face, because those shenanigans are eminently laughable. 3) Patrick, you are absolutely right about what Bennett is going to face from outraged birtherdom. He really didn't think that through.
