But the big news, of course, is the Joe Arpaio (a wholly owned subsidiary of World Nut Daily) dog and pony show, were Joe Arpaio and Mike Zullo (curiously, Jerome Corsi stayed in the background this time), spewed forth more debunked claims and outright lies, topping out with Joe Arpaio calling the entire State of Hawaii a "National Security Risk" for not coughing up that uppity boy's papers when the Maricopa CCCP demanded they do.
It's a particularly vile piece of work, which mostly seems to have been planned as a distraction from Arpaio's court date on 19 July. It's complete with lies about both Hawaiian AND Arizona State Law, recycled and debunked coding claims, an "interview" with no transcript, and a new, extremely biased "expert".
The usual gang of idiots eat it up with a spoon. Joseph Farah whines that he's ashamed to be a journalist, (which is okay, since journalists are ashamed of Joseph Farah.) It looks like World Nut Daily is giving campaign help to Joe Arpaio. Dr. Kate joins in on the Hawaii-bashing, while Lame Cherry's blood-soaked fantasies has the entire government put up against the wall and shot, or hung by the neck until dead. Starting with the President and working their way down.

15 July - CBS station KPHO-TV in Phoenix has some more financial info on the Maricopa CCCP's little Hawaiian holiday.
"The sheriff's office said it will provide details gathered in the posse's recent trip to Hawaii and an update on the ongoing investigation at a press conference scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in Phoenix.
A sheriff's office spokesman said the information will shock the White House and even the president himself."
Where have we heard this before?
"CBS 5 News took a hard look at how much this investigation has cost so far, and how many county tax dollars his investigators spent on the trip to Hawaii. Arpaio has denied any taxpayer money was spent on the trip.
According to records obtained from the county:
The trip cost roughly $9,600 overall.
$750 for airfare for a deputy.
$1,300 for lodging.
More than $1,100 dollars for meals.
The lone "sworn" deputy spent $103 a day on meals for 11 days. That's the maximum amount the county allows as per diem."
So no taxpayer money, except for $9600 for their trip, not to mention all the MCSO resources that have been shanghaied to support Corsi and Farah's jihad against President Obama.

17 July - It really is lookinglike Joe Arpaio might be using birtherism as a distraction from his other problems.....
"Not much publicity is bad publicity for "Sheriff Joe," who has risen from small-town obscurity to become a staple of national conversation on the back of controversial PR stunts – whether they involve Mr Obama's birth certificate or, to pluck another example from Mr Arpaio's CV, a policy of forcing prisoners to wear pink underwear. It is his stance on the thorny issue of illegal immigration which has earned him perhaps the greatest notoriety, however.
In recent years, his department has begun conducting high-profile "sweeps" of its territory, in which just under 30 per cent of citizens are Hispanic, arresting tens of thousands of suspected "illegals" and then handing them over to authorities for potential deportation.
On Thursday, this policy is due to land Mr Arpaio in Phoenix's Federal District Court. There, he will face a class-action civil rights lawsuit filed by several innocent victims of the "sweeps".
The plaintiffs include Manuel de Jesus Ortega Melendres, a Mexican citizen who has a valid visa allowing him to be in the US, but was arrested, handcuffed, and held for hours by Mr Arpaio's officers in 2007 without being read his rights or allowed a phone call. How very interesting. Once again Joe Arpaio schedules a "Cold Case Posse" announcement just before a court case or other legal announcement.
He wouldn't be using Corsi and Farah as a way to distract people from his other legal problems now, would he???

17 July - The Phoenix ABC station also notes how much the Maricopa CCCP cost the taxpayers.
"The Maricopa County Office of Management and Budget documents show Deputy Brian Mackiewicz was sent on the trip to Oahu that was "not pre-authorized by the County Manager, as is required by Maricopa County's Travel Policy for all travel outside of the continental United States."
The document goes on to state, "a review of other jurisdictions' travel policies reveals that this level of authorization is unusual, however, most jurisdictions only require department director or appointing authority approval."
The paperwork details Mackiewicz's payroll and employer-paid benefits during the nine day trip totaling $6,417.85. It's noted the deputy's salary, retirement, FICA/Medicare and health benefits are included and would have been incurred regardless of the trip.
However, the total cost for airfare, lodging and meals according to the documents was $3,210.36."
17 July - How very funny. At the exact same time that the Corsi/Arpaio dog and pony show starts, World Nut Daily posts an article about what Arpaio is releasing at said dog and pony show.

(b) Proof of legal residency shall be submitted to the director of health in any manner that the director shall deem appropriate. The director of health may also adopt any rules pursuant to chapter 91 that he or she may deem necessary or proper to prevent fraudulent applications for birth certificates and to require any further information or proof of events necessary for completion of a birth certificate. (c) The fee for each application for registration shall be established by rule adopted pursuant to chapter 91. [L 1982, c 182, §1]
Note the law was passed in 1982. Nor is it anything "new" or "breathtaking", but the same ol' birther shit we've seen before.

17 July - In an update, KPHO hears back from Hawaii's Attorney General's office.
"Hawaii officials said there is no secret. Joshua Wisch, Special Assistant to the state's Attorney General, said in a statement Tuesday that the allegations from Arpaio's office are "untrue, misinformed and misconstrue Hawaii law."
Wisch went on to say that:
"The purpose of section 338-17.8, Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS), is to accommodate foreign-born individuals whose parents were residents of Hawaii but were temporarily outside of this state due to employment or military service. Similar to section 338-20.5, HRS, which provides for a certificate of foreign birth, anyone who receives a birth certificate under this section would have noted on their birth certificate the physical location of their actual birth. It does not confer citizenship, which is, of course, a power of the federal government."We also note that section 338-17.8 was not passed until 1982, so it cannot apply to President Obama, who was born at the Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital in Honolulu in 1961, as is reflected on his certificate of live birth, a copy of which can be viewed on the White House website, a link to which is provided on DOH's website."

Arizona Secretary of State Bennet was mentioned in the conference, in particular for the lack of information he received in his much ballyhooed ‘verification’ of the ‘information on the BC’. Now the sheriff in his own county has proven the SoS is using defective information from a defective state agency. Obama’s name should NOT appear on the Maricopa County ballot in November–Phoenix has the largest population in the state.
The AZ SoS should be sued in a ballot challenge."

"Sheriff Joe Arpaio 's news conference Tuesday to release the findings of an investigation into President Barack Obama's birth certificate drew criticism from many who disagree with Arpaio's policies."

"Howerton wants to see John Rowan elected Maricopa County Sheriff this fall and points to Arpaio's birther investigation as one of the reasons why.

"Mike Zullo, the posse’s chief investigator and author of so-called “birther” books, said that after a trip to Hawaii the investigators found that coding numbers seen on the President’s birth certificate were not consistent with the coding required by the federal government.
Zullo also said Hawaii Assistant Attorney General Jill Nagamine had refused to cooperate with the investigation, suggesting there was a cover up. Nagamine refused to give the sheriff’s investigators permission to see the original birth documents held by the Hawaii Department of Health. Emails obtained by Talking Points Memo show that Hawaii officials questioned their legal authority to investigate the matter."
17 July - World Nut Daily whines that people didn't take Arpaio's dog and pony show seriously.

No, it indicates you recycled the debunked claims from "The Daily Pen", where they admitted they used the 1968 coding instead of the 1961 data.

18 July - Birther Debunker John Woodman is unimpressed by Arpaio's latest.
"Woodman wrote a book called "Is Barack Obama's Birth Certificate a Fraud?" In it he claims to have debunked 30 claims by birthers that the birth certificate is a fake or has been altered. He also said Tuesday's so-called findings by the Sheriff's Office and his posse don't change his mind.
"I think the Sheriff is becoming a mouth piece of the birther movement," said Woodman."
"Becoming"?? How about "has become"?
"Woodman is a computer and research expert who said he was ready for his research to show the birth certificate was a fake, but that isn't what he found. "There is no evidence to show otherwise," he said.
Woodman said Tuesday's claims from the Sheriff come down to the number nine on the certificate. It's the number that is supposed to point out the father's race.
Woodman said the Sheriff and his deputies are quoting from a 1961 government manual that has been proven to be from 1969, which means the same claims have already been proven false."

Well, except for the fact that thoughout 2008 and a good chunk of 2009, World Nut Daily was actually DEBUNKING birthers and claiming their conspiracy claims were without merit. But then Joseph Farah realized there was good money to made and became a born-again birther.

Not sure why Farah calls himself a "newsman," because he isn't. He's run two newspapers in his life (the LA Herald-Examiner and the Sacramento Union), and run them both straight into the ground. One could charitably refer to him as the Jack Kevorkian of the newspaper industry.

18 July - Doc Conspiracy weighs in on Zullo's commentary.

"An Arizona sheriff facing a lawsuit by Latinos who claim they were racially profiled by his department is trying to revive the old controversy over President Barack Obama's birth certificate.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said at a news conference Tuesday that investigators working for him have concluded the document is not legitimate. Arizona's Democratic Party immediately insisted Arpaio was trying to draw attention away from problems within his own agency.
A civil trial is set to begin Thursday in a lawsuit that accuses Arpaio's office of racially profiling Latinos. The suit is a precursor to a U.S. Justice Department lawsuit that alleges a broader range of civil rights violations against Arpaio's office."
