Thanks again to Reality Check for having me on his Blog Talk Radio show last tuesday (21 August). Alas, Blog Talk Radio took a dump about an hour and 15 minutes in, and didn't archive it either. Bother.
Anyway in today's dispatches, the tribble-pated one plans an RNC surprise. Joe Arpaio plans to hang around with fellow piles of elephant dung. Birtherpoolza 2.0 gains some more attention. The "Special Operations Speaks" PAC has some rather interesting connections and more than one birther.
Lame Cherry is…..well, Lame Cherry. The US Attorney's office replies to Gordon Epperly. The judge in Van Irion's Tennessee case makes a decision on costs and sanctions. Some birther RNC humour. And a Washington State death threat against the President.
A judge in Texas seems to be just the one for the birthers. Dr. Todd House may have been less than honest with his DIY lawsuit.
And more and more tacit approval and winking by Mitt Romney and the GOP at the birtherstani vote and demographic, complete with seven known birthers or birther panders speaking at their convention. Expect more of that between now and election day.
19 August - Tribble mobility scooter and Romney surrogate Donald Trump claims to have a "surprise" role at the GOP convention.
"Convention organizers won’t say what he’ll be doing in Tampa or whether he’ll address the delegates there. But they promise the controversial billionaire and prominent anti-President Barack Obama provocateur will be part of their opening day schedule.
The move will undoubtedly generate headlines given the real estate mogul’s star power and his flair for the unconventional.
But it will also give Democrats an avenue to pound the GOP for giving a platform to a man who has relentlessly questioned Obama’s citizenship.
Mitt Romney has embraced Trump this campaign season, including attending a Las Vegas fundraiser in May thrown by the reality TV star.
Trump has generated some buzz with recent posts on Twitter saying he was planning a “big surprise” at the convention next week. But for the first time sources are confirming Republicans will indeed enlist Trump to be part of their opening day act."
The Romney campaign and the GOP may not openly be in bed with the birthers, but they certainly have unzipped the birthers fly and are slipping their hands down the birthers pants while licking their lips seductively.
20 August - Looks like Joe Arpaio is going to be speaking in Tampa during the GOP convention as well.
"Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is scheduled to speak to delegates from western states on Aug. 30 during the Republican National Convention, the Arizona Republican Party said in a press release.
"Sheriff Joe is a good friend and a great Republican, a former member of the Electoral College representing Arizona, and he's wildly popular not just in Maricopa County but throughout the state and the country," said Tom Morrissey, Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party in the release.
In a tongue-in-cheek move, Arpaio will speak near the elephant enclosure at the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, Fla. The elephant is the symbol of the Republican Party."
21 August - Dr. Kate pimps Birtherpoolza 2.0 in Phoenix.
Oh, and dig deep.
"This post asks for your help in fundraising for this event by purchasing tickets whether or not you are able to come. Several Tea Party Patriots have purchased tickets for the Arizona Congressional Delegation, including Senators John McCain and Kyle, as well as candidates running for office. Many of you have heard these politicians’ less than honest answers regarding Obama’s constitutional eligibility, and well, McCain threw the election to Obama anyway. But your Senators and Representatives should be aware of this event!"
And she's not shy about pimping herself as well.
"drkate August 21, 2012 at 8:19 amHow about having a ‘drkatesview’ gathering at the gathering? Or a resurgence of ‘drakes platoon”? "
You mean like your "usurpation" with all of three people?? Three people don't make a "platoon".
Oh, and in response to an article about Muslims at the DNC Convention:
"drkate August 21, 2012 at 7:26 pm It will be the democrat’s end. Watch the violence."
Nothing like a bitter, racist, ex-PUMA.
Not to mention some conspiracy paranoia.

I’m thinking more on the lines of attempted assassination games on Romeny/Ryan maybe RP–but definitely R/R. No way does barry want to lose, the election is to near and he is losing big time–word is out everywhere that he is a usurper, an illegal alien, a traitor, a fake, a sham, a kenyan born in kenya…and his GIG to take down America and us is too close — and I bet most of the rino congress is on to this as well–they will be called out when he loses in Nov and they will all be charged as co-conspirators – all full well knowing barry wasn’t legit to be potus. They are all in on it.
This is my opinion, at least until more info comes out. Hopefully R/R cancel this shindig in time and leave the corrupt criminals hands right smack in the cookie jar!"
And, of course, since it's Dr. Kate's…

Or—the hurricane that’s supposedly headed to FL could have help from HAARP steering it right to Tampa—another Katrina?"
21 August - Looks like "Special Operations Speaks PAC" has more than one birther on board.
" Former Navy SEAL Ben Smith is often quoted representing OPSEC Education Fund, a group of former special operations members who accuse the president of allowing leaks about classified military operations and taking undue credit for the work of special operations forces, such as the May 2011 killing of Osama bin Laden.
The group claims to be non-partisan, although the New York Times has reported that several of its members have been involved in Republican campaigns or have been associated with the Tea Party in the past.
Smith, who is featured in OPSEC's 22-minute video "Dishonorable Disclosures," was not only a spokesman for the Tea Party Express, he has a long record of writings that seek to portray the president as a foreign-born imposter bent on driving a socialist-Marxist agenda. "
For example:
" Smith then wrote that Obama had used "some bad tan lotion because he looked like an old bruised Banana which made me think that Harry Belafonte was walking out to give his rendition of ‘Day-O' before ‘ole' suck and blow' was to come out and enlighten us with his blasphemous spew."
"You are an Imposter, You are a Muslim (Cassius Clay, Lew Alcindor, Barry Soetoro), You are the Manchurian President and may you go back to the country you were born in when you are deposed you little, little man (and take all your communist sympathizers with you)," Smith wrote. "You insult everything that was considered American. May you and your administration be a lesson to history and your posterity be lost to the rebirth of AMERICAN PATRIOTISM!"
Smith then tries to get the stink of birther off of him. And then backtracks that.
"Despite having previously called Obama a Muslim, on Monday Smith took to his Facebook to claim he is not absolutely sure the president was born outside of the United States. "I am not a birther - I have my doubts like the rest of us," he wrote. Today, he added, "I AM AS MUCH A BIRTHER AS THE PRESIDENT IS A CITIZEN. This is in response to [Obama's] comment that we are birthers."
Well, since the President is a citizen, then you must be a birther.
21 August - Why am I not surprised Lame Cherry has an opinion about Rep. Todd Akin, considering that Lame Cherry has more issues about sexuality than the entire print run of Penthouse??
"Ah, by the way if the Birthers had been supported in their factually proven data, none of this would matter as Barack Obama would be in prison and Claire McCaskill would be too for aiding treason against America. But Americans can thank Mark Levin for shutting that down like all the Mockingbird did and it is the same way that this is mapping out as I warned all of you. This Todd Akin thing is about stalemating the Senate for Obama control so Obama will not be impeached if he steals the election and if Romney steals it back, Romney will have a Senate which will not investigate Obama.
That is what this is all about, and the Karl puffy lips Rove will be whispering that they would have 'had control' if it had not been for that Right to Life Akin throwing the race……..How about America would have had the Senate in 2006 if this Rovian mob had not deliberately thrown the elections in Alaska, Delaware, Colorado and other key states in John Cronyn throwing millions as liberal GOP candidates and starving poor states where that money would have wind victories.
DO NOT FORGET THE ABOVE IN WHAT IS REALLY TAKING PLACE HERE."
21 August -And it looks like Ben Smith, who claims to be "non-partisan", may have ties to a Mitt Romney supporter.
21 August - Oh, and a familiar name shows up in the "Special Operations Speaks PAC" film.
"Special Ops OPSEC member ret. Maj. Gen. Paul Vallely, who appears in the group's film, has publicly questioned Obama's birth in Hawaii."
So that's three birthers known in that PAC.
21 August - The US Attorney's office in Alaska responds to Gordon Epperly's opposition to remand.
(Scribd link here)
"To his previous claims regarding jurisdiction, Petitioner’s motion adds a “challenge [to]the U.S. Constitutional authority of Karen L. Loeffler to exercise the Office of U.S. Attorney.”As his sole support for this claim – and his broader misconception that all “individuals who are not white Citizens . . . elected or appointed” in the government are “usurpers of office,”Petitioner presents only a rambling, irrelevant historical opus purporting to interpret theFourteenth and Nineteenth Amendments.
Petitioner has been previously sanctioned for making similar arguments in other cases. See Epperly v. United States, 980 F.2d 737 (Table) (9th Cir. 1992)"
22 August - The human face race, swift boat liar Jerome Corsi, pimp's Arpaio's trip to Tampa.
"Amid his battle with the Justice Department and his investigation of Obama’s eligibility, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been asked to address a large audience of delegates to the Republican National Convention in Tampa.
The invitation-only reception for delegates from Western states will be held Aug. 30 at the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa. Elephants, appropriately, are expected to be at the GOP event."
Where they can listen to a huge pile of elephant crap.
"Sheriff Joe is a good friend and a great Republican,” said Tom Morrissey, chairman of the Arizona Republican Party.
Noting Arpaio is a former member of the Electoral College representing Arizona, Morrissey said the sheriff is “wildly popular, not just in Maricopa County, but throughout the state and the country.”
“He’s done a lot for the Republican Party already, and we’re overjoyed that as always he is willing to join us as we visit some of our ‘fellow elephants’ while in Tampa,” the GOP leader said."
And his foray into conspiracyland is just an added bonus, eh?
22 August - Didn't the tribble mobility scooter say the exact same thing about the stuff his "investigators in Hawaii" supposedly were finding in April of 2011??
"Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
Many people will be surprised at what is about to be released concerning @BarackObama's background. I, for one, won't be.
6:48 AM - 22 Aug 12"
22 August - And the hits keep coming:
"Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
I am tired of @BarackObama talking about @MittRomney's father. Why don't we discuss Barack Obama Sr.!
5:58 AM - 22 Aug 12"
22 August - *Chuckle* And some humour, a birther wet RNC dream, at Travistation.
"This makes it a smooth transition for the first guest. An unseen emcee announces: “Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only… Donald Trump!” The crowd gives a lukewarm cheer.. they weren’t expecting the Donald. He walks out.. his hair is wild and unkempt.. as if he just had some sort of tussle in the green room. He did.Trump steps up to the podium.. “You know what I’m here to talk about today…” The crowd leans forward in anticipation.. He takes out what looks like a long-form birth certificate from the state of Hawaii… the crowd erupts. Trump makes a face that suggests he may have just tasted some long-expired sour cream as he looks at the paper. “But first.. I have some great news… of a very personal nature!” Again the crowd quiets.. “I want you to meet, as of 15 minutes ago backstage.. my new fiancé. Ms. Orly Taitz, Esquire!!”
Again the cheers swell from the crowd. Some people are heard chanting “Or-ly! Or-ly Or-ly!” A tall, slender woman, wearing a very short skirt, white stiletto heels, and a tight white leather top with bleached blond hair comes staggering out. She looks slightly dazed, her hair is also a mess."
Lil' bunny frou-frou gonna trow up…..
"During the segue, a curtain lifts and Hank Williams Jr. and Kid Rock step forward, guitars on hand. There is no band and their instruments are not plugged in. They seem to be lip synching.
“THAT OBAMA IS A MUSLIIIIIIIMMMMM! LET’S GO AND GET A LYNCH PARTYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!” Williams mouths into a non-existent microphone, to the tune of his Monday Night Football song… Kid Rock sways back and forth with glazed eyes.. he seems to be playing a completely different song. The artists leave the stage, vocals still blaring out over the PA although no one appears to be signing. The crowd delights. Clapping to try to keep rhythm but failing."
Oh, I could see the birthers so totally WANTING this.
22 August - In Washington State, another death threat.
"A Seattle-area man was arrested Tuesday after emailing a threat against President Barack Obama to an FBI account.
According to KOMO-TV, Secret Service agents went to the Federal Way home of 31-year-old Anton Caluori immediately after the emails were intercepted. The nature of the threat was not revealed, but when authorities reached Caluori’s apartment, a local police spokesperson said, they got an unwelcome surprise.
“When the door opened, he was armed,” Cathy Shrock told KING-TV. “It was brandished at the federal agent and the federal police officer.”
Caluori was taken into custody and confiscated two weapons on the premises. A bomb squad was also called in to sweep the home for explosives following some comments by Caluori. "
22 August - The Swiftboat-style attack by the so-called "Special Operations Speaks PAC" may be running aground.
"The fall from grace began with Larry Bailey, a retired 27-year veteran of the Navy SEALs who founded the anti-Obama political group Special Operations Speaks. Bailey's military career placed him in a unique position to attack the president, but it didn't take him very long to get off message, as Foreign Policy's Josh Rogin found out. "I have to admit that I'm a Birther," Bailey told Rogin. "If there were a jury of 12 good men and women and the evidence were placed before them, there would be absolutely no question Barack Obama was not born where he said he was and is not who he says he is." In the interview, he also said Obama was a socialist who was raised by communists, which caught the attention of Obama campaign official Ben LaBolt who gleefully distributed the article to Washington reporters."
23 August - Lubbock County Judge Tom Head is banging the drums of civil war.
"Judge Tom Head and Commissioner Mark Heinrich told the station this week that a 1.7 cent tax increase for the next fiscal year was necessary to prepare for many contingencies, including Obama's re-election. He also mentioned to the station that the county needs a pay increase is needed for the district attorney's office and more funds to pay for more sheriff's office deputies.
"He's going to try to hand over the sovereignty of the United States to the (United Nations), and what is going to happen when that happens?," Head asked the station during a Monday interview. "I'm thinking the worst. Civil unrest, civil disobedience, civil war maybe. And we're not just talking a few riots here and demonstrations, we're talking Lexington, Concord, take up arms and get rid of the guy."
Head also seems to fear the retaliation of such civil unrest.
"Now what's going to happen if we do that, if the public decides to do that? He's going to send in U.N. troops. I don't want 'em in Lubbock County. OK. So I'm going to stand in front of their armored personnel carrier and say 'you're not coming in here'.
"And the sheriff, I've already asked him, I said 'you gonna back me' he said, 'yeah, I'll back you'. Well, I don't want a bunch of rookies back there. I want trained, equipped, seasoned veteran officers to back me."
22 August - Some people are unimpressed at birther report over Donald Trump.
"Dealio said…[Reply]Wow. It's amazing people still believe, and/or listen to, the sheriff and Trump. Worst, the sheriff milks the issue from people who continue to give. Both of them, together with and, are all traitors. And, we've got our own ORYR just about reporting on the sheriff's and Trump's every utterance pertaining to this issue. Problem is, they've yet to report on why the sheriff has not filed with the DA. Although I've stated time and time again the sheriff is a traitor, I still want to hear his excuse for not filing. How 'bout it, ORYR? I know, I forgot to mention the sheriff is also a coward. The sheriff is good at proving himself a traitor and coward each and every day the illegal illegally remains in the WH and not behind bars.

"lazer73 said…[Reply]I wish the Donald would stop playing games here. The issues are too important. If has some news, present it. He said before you will be surprised by what my people are turning up in Hawaii. Then he dropped off the radar when his show was renewed and Obama posted his fake pdf on the White House web site. Donald if you have something lets hear it now.
August 23, 2012 11:58 AM
"Dealio said…[Reply]If you are continuing to put your faith and trust in the sheriff and/or Trump, you've already lost. Both are blowing smoke up your a$$ and/or are stringing you along. Now, if you're going to make the argument that these two are all we have, my response is- better we move forward on our own and not wait for anyone and/or anybody. It is what it is and I can't change it.
August 23, 2012 6:10 PM "
Some sedition and open racism (bold face mine):
"Ralph Swain said…[Reply]… I agree. I doubt that Mr. Trump has anything solid; however, I welcome him bringing conjecture and innuendo because the election will be close, and we'll need everything to stop NObama, including urban voter suppression, to get the job done. Although I hate the idea of armed rebellion, it might be necessary if Sambobama wins the election.
August 23, 2012 1:48 PM "
Take a look at that. "Ralph Swain" is openly endorsing lies, voter suppression of minorities, and open armed violence if it means getting President Obama out of office.
What a "patriotic Constitutionalist." (/sarcasm)
Oh, and a death threat.
"Anonymous said…[Reply]we don't care if we can't get bullets we will club you commies to death like a baby seal. you fucked up picking America to play your games in we don't play well with commie scum like you.

23 August - "Dr. Conspiracy" notes that Dr. Todd House may have screwed up his DIY-based birther lawsuit in Kentucky.
See, his complaint states. on page 6: (Scribd link here)
"Second Challenge to Eligibility - Foreign Birth
25. Defendant Obama was foreign born.
26. Accordingly, defendant Obama is not a natural born citizen of the United States.
27. Accordingly, defendant Obama does not meet the Eligibility Requirements."
The problem is that on 22 August 2012, House told an interviewer:
"House said in the interview that he doesn’t believe Obama was born in Kenya but said that the president has not proved he was born in the United States."
So House stated something in his lawsuit he doesn't personally believe in.
Awkward.
23 August - Jay Bookman at the Atlanta Journal-Chronicle notes the GOP's dark side, and tacit encouragement of birtherism.
"The Republican Party has invested years of effort in trying to depict Barack Hussein Obama as unAmerican and far outside the mainstream. And while the notion lies at the very dark heart of the birther movement peddled by clowns such Donald Trump and Orly Taitz, it has been pushed hard by top party leaders as well.
When Newt Gingrich accuses Obama of “Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior,” when John Sununu wishes Obama “would learn to be American,” and when Mitt Romney himself complains that Obama’s “course is extraordinarily foreign,” they’re all attempting to define Obama out of the American mainstream. The arguments stands at the core of their anti-Obama strategy.
The videotape of the Texas judge warning that if re-elected, Obama would lead a military takeover by the United Nations makes it clear that the notion has taken hold among those who are themselves on the fringes of sanity, but we already knew that. The question is, how deeply has that meme penetrated among ordinary Americans?"
How did that work?
"Obama, it turns out, is considered the most mainstream of any of those mentioned, followed by Democratic candidates for office. More than half of Americans consider Mitt Romney out of the mainstream, while four years ago just 41 percent said the same about John McCain.
On the other hand, those who have been most adamant about Barack Obama’s lack of credentials as a real American — Republican candidates for Congress — are today considered mainstream by just 38 percent of their fellow Americans. And it is largely an image earned on merit, by their own rhetoric and actions."
23 August - More about Anton Caluori.
"Molnar wrote that the e-mail, received by the FBI earlier Tuesday, said, "I will kill the president !!!!!" and "You can't afford to call my bluff."The message said that dying "isn't frightening … it's peaceful … you will see…" and spoke of a "cop killing spree … just over the hill," Molnar said. The e-mail included an address and challenged authorities to "come and get me."
A database check confirmed that Caluori lived at the address in the e-mail," Molnar said in his affidavit, and the username of the e-mail account appeared consistent with his name.
Molnar said he and Federal Way police officer Andy Hensing went to the apartment complex at the address, where an employee told them Caluori was a "hothead" with a "temper" who lived with his mother.
The officers knocked on the apartment door twice with no answer. The third time, a man later identified as Caluori opened the door, Molnar said.
"Caluori was wearing a black bandoleer filled with 12-gauge shotgun shells around his torso. Attached to the bandoleer at chest level was a large black fixed-blade knife. On his ankle, Caluori was weaving a revolver in an ankle holster. Caluori's right hand was placed out-of-view behind his back," the affidavit said.
The officers commanded the man several times to "show us your hands."
At first he didn't comply. But then he "moved his right hand from behind his back revealing a stockless black pump-action shotgun with a pistol grip," the affidavit said.
After he raised the firearm, the officers scuffled with Caluori."
And this is rather scary:
"Caluori's mother, identified as R.B. in the affidavit, said Caluori "spends a lot of time on the computer" but she "does not know what he does on it."
According to the affidavit, R.B. said Caluori has "negative views of President Obama and in the last few days, most recently that day, has made negative statements about the president."
After reading Caluori his Miranda rights, Molnar asked him if he knew why the police were at the scene.
"I think I do, but I don't want to say it," he said.
He was shown a copy of the e-mail to the FBI and, asked if he wrote it, said, "possibly," Molnar wrote.
Asked if he had any "issues with the president," Caluori replied, "You don't have a high enough security clearance. Call the CIA or run it up the chain of command," Molnar said."
23 August - "Special Operations Speaks PAC" has an event planned for the GOP national convention.
"This high-energy tribute to the ment women of the United States military will feature former members of SEAL Team Six, Army Rangers, Gold Star parents and modern day patriots with a few surprise guests," reads the flyer obtained by BuzzFeed.U.S. Senators, a few conservative Hollywood celebrities, and a roster of about half dozen former Special Forces operators are planning to speak, according to one of the event's organizers, Joel Arends.
"The thinking is very simple, we want to educate delegates to the RNC convention on two different issues," says Arends, who is also head of Veterans for a Strong America. The first issue, he says, are the "national security leaks have come out this White House are damaging the troops on the battlefield." The second issue is sequestration and planned cuts in the defense budget.
The groups involved — OPSEC, Special Operations for America, and Veterans for a Strong America — have been the targets of intense criticism in recent days from the White House and its allies. "
23 August - Sad to say, Andrew Sullivan has a point about Judge Head.
"Sometimes it feels to me as if this campaign - with its entrenched support for both sides so dominant and the space for actual persuasion so minimal - is less a campaign than a cold civil war. Almost exactly along the same regional and racial lines as the real one."
23 August - Dr. Orly comes out in support of Rep. Todd Akin's rather idiotic beliefs on rape and conception. (malware and redirect warning)
"Todd Akin has to demand immediate retraction and public apology from every news organization, from any talk show host and politician, who maliciously twisted out of context his remark and who viciously defamed him

Because, I guess, her degree in dentistry and her law degree from an on-line law school makes her an expert in OB/GYN matters....... *rolls eyes*
24 August - Looks like Mitt Romney is now playing wink-wink flirty games with the birthers.
"Mitt Romney made a joke about his birth certificate at a rally in Commerce, Mich. on Friday.
Speaking about his Michigan roots, he said, "No one's ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place that we were born and raised."
The joke was received with hearty applause by the audience. Still, it was an awkward moment for the candidate to play on the birther conspiracies that have plagued Barack Obama since he ran for president in 2008, even after the president released his "long-form" birth certificate in 2011.
The Obama campaign quickly responded, with spokesman Ben LaBolt saying that Romney was embracing the most extreme elements in the conservative movement.
"Throughout this campaign, Governor Romney has embraced the most strident voices in his party instead of standing up to them," he said. "It's one thing to give the stage in Tampa to Donald Trump, Sheriff Arpaio, and Kris Kobach. But Governor Romney's decision to directly enlist himself in the birther movement should give pause to any rational voter across America."
I've commented before on Mitt Romney's continued use of birthers as surrogates (Donald Trump) or co-chairs (Arizona SoS Ken Bennett). The fact he's now openly commenting on it suggests that the birther blather may be ratcheted up.
Last tuesday, before Blog Talk Radio took a dump, I said on "Reality Check's" show that Romney would go birther if his polling numbers fell, or if he needs to shore up his base. I think we're seeing signs of this now. Furthermore, if President Obama does win a second term, I would not be surprised to see some court challenge from the Romney campaign or his surrogates.
Sen. John McCain had the class not to go full metal birther. Romney deciding to flirt with the birtherstani shows his complete lack of class and win at all costs mindset.
24 August - The people at Birther Report start to pee their pants over the "wink-wink, nudge-nudge" that Mitt Romney gave the birtherstani.
"RS said…[Reply]Oh Romney went there and the crowd goes wild. Like I said to the Dumb little FoggyOBots, we all know your clown is an anti-Constitutionalists Usurper.

"Anonymous said…[Reply]I think this was a calculated move. One of the only issues that will change the media's attention from Akin's rape comment is the birther issue. Romney has spoken to Sheriff Joe and he's fully aware of the situation. This will obviously get the leftist media in a frenzy and the rape comment will be history. Hopefully the media will demand to see his birth certificate and blow this issue up even bigger. It's a win-win situation for Romney.
August 24, 2012 12:41 PM "
24 August - Looks like Dr. Orly wants some of the Tampa spotlight on her nitrous-addled self as well. (Malware and redirect warning)
"Can someone help me get a ticket to this event, so maybe I can forward to Miriam Adelson all the evidence on Obama’s forged IDs

The event in question is a party for the wife of Romney bankroller Sheldon Adelson.
24 August - And what a surprise, Dr. Orly's also aflutter over Mitt Romney flirting with the birthers (malware and redirect warning)
"Romney cracks a joke about Obama’s forged birth certificate, the crowd erupts in applause. Keep the pressure on the fraud and usurper, Gov. Romney!

"William Blasingame

About time… lets just hope during a debate he ask obama why law proved his bc was forged.."
Depends on how desperate the GOP gets……
24 August - The Daily Mail reports on Romney's flirtation with the birthers.
"The quip was an obvious reference to the theory propounded on the Right-wing fringe that Obama was not born in Hawaii, as a newspaper notice at the time and the long-form birth certificate produced by the White House show, but in Kenya. For Romney, the subject is a perilous one because many independent voters view such theories as racist and an attempt to delegitimize America’s first black president.
Romney is more vulnerable on the issue than many other Republicans because he publicly accepted the endorsement of Donald Trump, the billionaire property mogul and reality television star, who is an outspoken proponent of Birther theories.
At the time, Romney said he did not agree with Trump on Birtherism. ‘You know, I don't agree with all the people who support me and my guess is they don't all agree with everything I believe in. But I need to get 50.1 per cent or more and I'm appreciative to have the help of a lot of good people.'
Kevin Madden, a Romney spokesman, immediately sought to downplay the comment, saying that ‘the governor's been clear on this issue many times before’ and viewed it as settled."
The fact that Mitt Romney is flirting with the birthers and using avowed birthers as his surrogates and campaign co-chairs without denouncing them for it makes it quite clear that Romney has absolutely no problems playing games with that "issue".
"Romney advisers said that his joke was unplanned. But many Obama supporters were quick to suggest that it was a dog whistle to racists and an attempt to whip up anger.
Republicans were quick to say that an Obama adviser had suggested Romney was a felon and a super PAC campaign ad linked him to the death of a woman who succumbed to cancer.
At best, Romney’s joke was a tactical blunder because it undermined his promise to run a substantive campaign about big issues and took the focus of the campaign away from what voters care about most – jobs and the economy."
Damage control much?
24 August - Since birther bills and ballot challenges have failed, what's the next target?? The Commission on Presidential Debates!!
"A Call to Action: Write to the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) and their members and demand they properly do their vetting job of Obama this time around."
24 August - *Chuckle*

24 August - Salon comments on Romney's birther flirt.
"With his joke today that “No one has ever asked to see my birth certificate,” Mitt Romney moved down to the lowest rung of the Republican Party – the racist demagogues who know better.
I don’t forgive poor, isolated, ignorant whites their racism, but you can understand some of the cultural programming that’s embedded it. Romney knows Obama was born here. And he also knows exactly what he’s doing with his birth certificate joke: He’s telling the bedrock Republican reactionary base to pay no attention to that Todd Akin mess, Romney will cater to their basest political desires.
We know Romney knows better, because his son Matt made the same joke, and had to apologize (if tweeting “My bad” is an apology). This time, he didn’t have one of his sons, or even Paul Ryan, act as surrogate: Romney himself is willing to wade into the muck himself.
If you had any doubts about the racial animus behind Romney’s lying welfare ads – which polls show conservative whites view through a racial lens, thanks to Ronald Reagan painting “welfare queens” in such vivid terms – Romney’s descent into birtherism should dispel it.
Talk about doubling down on whiteness.
Mitt Romney should be ashamed of himself, and so should anyone who votes for him."
24 August - David Weigel comments on Romney's flirty birther games as well, and the spin to try and explain it away.
"It's just a joke.
Well, sure, but who's the joke for? Since the summer of 2008, false rumors have circulated online, alleging that Barack Obama's pregnant teenage mother flew to Kenya -- or something like that -- and gave birth to a kid who wasn't eligible for the presidency. Starting that year, activists started filing lawsuits, full of false information, aiming to get Obama kicked off of presidential ballots. In 2009, somewhat surprisingly, the conspiracy theory became even more popular -- more lawsuits, members of Congress proposing legislation to require birth certificates from candidates, endless rumors at sites like WorldNetDaily that encouraged people to support soldiers who refused to serve under Obama. Even through this year, Donald Trump has continued pushing the theory and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has convened a "cold case posse" that produced evidence -- all bogus -- that the birth certificate is forged. Romney's been endorsed by both those guys."
Welcome to the last four years of birtherism in a nutshell.
"It's fair play because Obama lowered the tone of the campaign by joking about Seamus.
Okay. Mitt Romney once put his dog in a kennel on the roof of his car and drove to Canada. But Barack Obama wasn't actually born in Kenya. Spot the difference? I completely see the comparison between the Seamus story and Obama's story of eating "dog meat" in Indonesia. Both of those things are embarrassing and they happened."
It's only a joke if things like that happened. Otherwise, it's pandering.
24 August - Think Progress has a list of seven birthers speaking at the GOP convention.
"Mitt Romney’s invocation of birtherism on Friday took his campaign to a new level of involvement with the bogus idea that President Obama is actually Kenyan-born and therefore ineligible to serve as Commander-in-Chief. But that dog-whistle theory has already been embraced by many major Republicans with whom Romney has long been happy to consort.
Indeed, as Republicans head down to Tampa for their convention next week, they are preparing to see a veritable festival of politicians who have dabbled in — or fully embraced — birtherism. "
Besides Donald Trump, the list has Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens. Actress Jamie Turner, Former Gov. Mike Huckabee, and Rep. Cathy Rodgers (R-WA). Not to mention Gov Rick Scott of Florida and Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana for their birther pandering.
24 August - Not surprisingly, Birther Report just loves the debate brainstorm.

It's so cute when their rainbow bubble of fantasy gets popped by the sharp prick of reality.
24 August - Dr. Orly's buddy and failed "presidential candidate" Leah Lax shows the world just how classy she is on Facebook.
"Leah Lax · 55 subscribers 2 hours ago ·I was born in St Josephs Hospital in Philadelphia Pa and I was born to JEWISH PARENTS both REAL NATURAL BORN BOTH SERVERED IN WW2.BOTH HEROS Your mother was a whore and posed naked for Franklen Marshall Davis. ….Liar Muslim Obama Show us a paper certificate now I don't believe you"
Klassy with a K(KK)…..
24 August - Meanwhile, Mitt Romney is trying to backpedal….
“But this was a swipe at the president and I wonder why you took it,” Pelley said, pressing the presumed Republican nominee.
“No, no, not a swipe," Romney said. “I've said throughout the campaign and before, there's no question about where he was born. He was born in the U.S. This was fun about us, and coming home. And humor, you know – we've got to have a little humor in a campaign.”
I get the strong feeling this wasn't a bit of "humour", or anything like that. It was a trial balloon to see if the time was right to take a trip down birther lane, and a dog whistle to the base. IT WAS NOT A JOKE.
Expect a lot more "jokes" like that between now and election day.
24 August - Looks like Rush Limbaugh thought it was a trial balloon as well. And was over the moon over the comment.
"Romney was unsurprisingly criticized by the Obama campaign, but Limbaugh clearly loved it. He played the soundbite twice, shouting, ""Right on, right on, right on!"
He added that he thought Romney was "test-driving" the line for further use, and connected it to the upcoming Republican convention."
And he's looking forward to more nasty, snotty comments.
"The Obama-bashing at the Republican convention is going to be delicious," he said."
24 August - The judge makes a ruling in the request for sanctions against Van Irion in Tennessee.
(Scribd link here)
" The Court holds that Defendants have shown that counsel for Plaintiff knew or reasonably should have known that the claims in this case had no basis in law. Specifically, counsel for Plaintiffs reasonably should have known that Plaintiffs lacked standing to pursue their claims related to Defendants’ efforts to certify President Obama as the Democratic Party’s nominee for theTennessee general election. First, the Court finds that the allegations of standing made on behalf of Plaintiff Maroney are particularly frivolous and without merit. When confronted with the standing issue in Defendants’ motion to dismiss, Plaintiffs’ brief failed to attempt to show that Maroney had standing much less cite legal authority to support such a position. The Court was left to presume based on the allegations of the Amended Complaint that Maroney brought suit in his capacity as a concerned citizen and tax payer. As the Court held in its order of dismissal, Maroney’s was an “undifferentiated, generalized grievance” that could not possibly establish standing to bring such claims. What is more, counsel for Plaintiffs should have realized as much before he ever framed pleadings and brought suit on behalf of Maroney. On this basis alone, counsel’s conduct lacked any reasonable justification."
Ouch.
"Second, the Court further finds that the allegations of standing made on behalf of Dummett and Volodarsky were almost equally without merit. Although the Amended Complaint alleged both of these Plaintiffs were declared candidates for President of the United States, Plaintiffs failed to address Volodarsky’s standing at all in their briefing. Plaintiffs did argue that Dummett (but not Volodarsky) had competitive standing to bring his claims, meaning that as a candidate, Dummett could challenge the qualifications of a competing candidate. As the Court has already concluded, (20) however, the Amended Complaint completely failed to allege any plausible facts showing that Dummett would ever appear on a ballot with President Obama or otherwise compete for votes directly with the Democratic incumbent. Unlike the political candidates in Drake v. Obama (21) Plaintiff Dummett did not allege that he was the nominee of any political party or that his name would appear on the Tennessee general election ballot. At best, Dummett attempted to show that the had registered with the Tennessee Secretary of State as a write-in candidate. Plaintiffs have (22) cited, and the Court is aware of, no legal authority standing for the proposition that a write-in candidate who was not a political party’s nominee for office could have competitive standing to challenge a rival’s qualifications. On the contrary, the Court noted in its order of dismissal that“[t]he allegation that an individual from California who is a merely declared write-in candidate inTennessee is, without additional factual support, too speculative to show injury-in-fact.” Under (23) the circumstances, the Court holds that counsel for Plaintiff should have known that Dummett and Volodarsky had no standing to assert their claims in this case."
OUCH!
I thought Dummett (pronounced "doo*FUS") said this was a "can't fail" case??
"Having determined that counsel for Plaintiff reasonably should have known that all Plaintiffs lacked standing to bring this suit, the Court holds that Plaintiffs’ claims were frivolous and with out any arguable basis in law. As such, counsel for Plaintiff has multiplied the proceedings in this case unreasonably and vexatiously and should therefore be required to satisfy personally the attorneys’ fees reasonably incurred by Defendants because of such conduct. Defendants’ Motion is GRANTED as to this issue"
Better get that checkbook out.
" While the Court recognizes the seriousness of these claims, the Court declines the parties’ invitation to consider them in assessing the need for sanctions under § 1927. Just as the Court found it unnecessary to the decide these issues in dismissing the case, the Court finds it unnecessary to delve into these questions for the purpose of imposing sanctions. The Court must emphasize that it takes no position on the relative merits of the parties’ positions on these matters. The Court simply concludes that conducting a close analysis of legal and factual issues, which were not actually dispositive in this case, would be a waste of judicial resources. Therefore, the Court finds good cause to limit the sanction against counsel for Plaintiff to only those attorney fees incurred as a result of preparing and briefing Defendants’ motion to dismiss on the standing issue (D.E. # 4). Insofar as Defendants seek attorney fees incurred for the other motions to dismiss, the request for sanctions is DENIED"
So no sanctions, but attorney's fees. Better than nothing.
24 August - Talking Points Memo "Muckraker" reports on Birtherpoolza 2.0.
"While the Republican Party gears up for its biggest event of the year next week in Florida, the conspiracy theorists among them are already looking forward to another convention of sorts next month in Arizona.
Some of the best known birthers in the nation are scheduled to take the stage at a star-studded event in Phoenix, where they plan to call for Congress to investigate whether President Obama’s birth certificate is real.
There will be singing. There will be speeches. Drinks will be available for purchase. The only question is whether the venue, which features seating in the round, will activate its spinning stage. Promoters are calling it “A Greater Phoenix Tea Party Patriots Event” but you can call it Birtherpalooza."
Note to Nick R. Martin - I was calling it "Birtherpoolza" from the start. *chuckle*

Think Progress has a list of seven birthers speaking at the GOP convention.
It looks like Isaac is taking a hand here. Of the 7 birthers:
Huckabee was scheduled to speak on Monday, cancelled due to Isaac;
Trump was going to spring his "surprise" on Monday, again cancelled due to Isaac;
Rick Scott doesn't know when he'll be able to attend, due to Isaac;
and Jindal is stuck at home in LA, due to guess-who.
I don't mean to make light of Isaac -- I have friends in FLA and even if I didn't, I'd feel for anyone in its projected path.
But I can't resist: ISAAC = I Stopped An Asshole Convention (h/t Balloon Juice).

By the way, apparently Trump's surprise was going to be a skit or video in which he was going to "fire" an Obama impersonator:
http://gawker.com/5935296/donald-trumps-big-surprise-for-republican-national-convention-is-unspeakably-lame
To Trump, everything is about Trump, isn't it? The convention of one of the nation's two political parties, just months before the election? All it means to Trump is an opportunity to promote his TV show.
What I find hard to believe is that he convinced the RNC to let him cheapen the convention with an ad for his show. But it's starting to look as though these people couldn't organize a one-float parade.
