30 August - NewsBusters seems to be under the delusion the GOP has disavowed Birtherism.
"Following Condoleezza Rice’s inspirational convention speech, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews decided to hurl a ridiculous question about birtherism to the former Secretary of State.
Continuing with the racist narrative on MSNBC, Mr. Matthews decided to ignore the crux of Ms. Rice’s speech and instead drag up an issue that numerous Republicans have disavowed since the beginning.

31 August - After reading this article by Larry Klayman in World Nut Daily, one might suspect that Klayman is a tad bit on the bigoted side.

3 September - In an article with a rather misleading headline, World Nut Daily reports that Larry Klayman wrote a nasty letter to Robert Bauer.
"OBAMA LAWYER WARNED AGAINST CERTIFYING ELIGIBILITY"
Interesting wording. Makes it sound like Bauer was the one doing the "warning", rather than being the one "warned". It's not like World Nut Daily would say or do anything dishonest or misleading now, would they? (/sarcasm)
"Larry Klayman explains in a letter that election officials can not be certain of Obama’s eligibility, and the law doesn’t allow them to make assumptions.
The letter to Robert Bauer, general counsel to the Democratic National Committee, points to evidence of Obama’s ineligibility that would make letters from the DNC to states regarding his candidacy problematic.
“There is therefore no longer any state or national official in the Democratic Party who can escape legal responsibility for ignoring the proof herein provided, and a plea of ignorance of the facts will no longer be possible, especially under the informed legal counsel provided by you (and your state counterparts), Mr. Bauer,” Klayman wrote.
“At the same time that you are receiving this legal analysis, each DNC Executive Committee member – as well as each state Democratic Party chair, secretary of state, and state attorney general – is receiving a certified letter advising them of the legal jeopardy in which they place themselves should they proceed – in light of the facts herein presented – to certify to state or national election officials that Barack Hussein Obama is the constitutionally and legally qualified Democratic candidate for president of the United States.”
Such verifications, if created, would be “perjurious,” Klayman said."
Rather threaty letter Klayman.
"The evidence Klayman cites in the letter includes Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett’s highly publicized request of the state of Hawaii to verify that the likely Democratic nominee is a “natural-born citizen.”
WND reported Bennett eventually closed his inquiry without obtaining any pertinent documentation."
Funny, usually a letter from the Registrar for the State of Hawaii verifying the contents of a birth certificate issued in that state would be seen as "obtaining any pertinent documentation".
Klayman's argument (PDF here) is that the State of Hawaii didn't really verify the information in the long form.
"He contended Hawaii State Registrar Alvin Onaka “failed” to provide verification to Bennett of Obama’s birth information.
He did, however, verify that “the information in the copy of the Certificate of Live Birth for Mr. Obama that you attached with your request matches the original record in our files.”Mr. Onaka undeniably failed to verify that the image posted at whitehouse.gov “is a true and accurate representation of the original record."
But Klayman explained state law requires Onaka to furnish “in lieu of the issuance of a certified copy, a verification of the existence of a certificate and any other information that the applicant provides to be verified.”
Actually Alvin Onaka DID verify such. The fact that the birtherstani don't want to accept said verification doesn't change that fact.
"Klayman, whose high-profile legal career has included lawsuits against OPEC, Cuban interests, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hugo Chavez, told WND the letter puts Democrats on notice that certifying Obama’s eligibility without having the actual knowledge opens them up to liability for making false statements."

When he was arrested last year, Ervin had risen to the rank of “governor” of Alabama. He had long preached his success at avoiding taxes, and he claimed he had no obligation to the United States.
Last November, the courts found otherwise. Ervin and his wife, Patricia, were each convicted of one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States and three counts of tax evasion. As of press time, both were awaiting sentencing.

A woman in South Alabama has been on the run for several months after being convicted of burglary for removing the “For Sale” sign of a home in foreclosure and declaring ownership. A man in Birmingham is scheduled for trial on charges that he filed bogus property liens and other court documents to intimidate anyone he considered an enemy — a sovereign tactic known as “paper terrorism.” Early last year, in Arizona, a so-called “ambassador” for RuSA was shot and killed after he tried to wrestle a Taser away from a police officer. And more recently, in West Virginia, a former “congressman” for the group was found dead with his 9-year-old son in a burned trailer home — a case that remains under investigation but which authorities have said they believe was a murder-suicide."

5 September - I'm going to assume that Joseph Farah doesn't actually read World Nut Daily or pay close attention to any of it's writers.

And much of this was true. Up until the civil rights movement and the 1964 Civil Rights Act,. Which saw the Democratic party shed the "dixiecrats" like Strom Thurmond and others. Richard Nixon deliberately courted these "dixiecrats" into the GOP via his "Southern Strategy", and much of the more racist attitudes of the old-time Southern Democrats have found a new home in the GOP.
But Farah doesn't mention any of this, citing incidents that happened during the Reconstruction era and somehow trying to suggest they're actually part of the modern Democratic Party.

When you have GOP delegates who throw peanuts at African-Americans while saying "this is how we feed the animals", then you start to get a hint as to why the Democratic party "gets away with it".
Klayman's screed was an exercise in classic wingnut buzzwords. I had my bingo card filled before the end of the second sentence.

I'm noticing quite an increase in misleading headlines (not that they were few and far between before) on WND, their surrogate ORYR and others.
Seems the old propaganda trick of hammering disinformation into the subconscious (by hoping that the wrong information will stick especially if people don't read every article) is still working for them.
Then again, with birthers, even reading the article doesn't make them realize the headline doesn't fit it.

On the other hand, Pat and M, headline writing is an art, and it's ridiculously easy to write what in the trade is known as a two-faced hed without realizing it, until someone on the copy desk points it out, to your chagrin. In fact, I'd say it's easier to write one unintentionally than deliberately, and with the quality of "editing" that goes on at those sites, I wouldn't be surprised if it were just sloppy work.
